Andy: Can't Ask Players Not to Quit if I Do
Les Bowen
Andy Reid was asked Monday why, if his leadership of the steadily worsening team is ineffective, he doesn't consider stepping down.
"I'm standing in front of the team and telling them 'these are the things we need to do,' one of which is continue to battle," Reid said. "I think that'd be a copout ... that's not how I'm wired. We're going to keep battling, do it as a team. I can't tell the guys one thing and then do the other."
Reid said running back LeSean McCoy has a headache and is in stage 1 of his recovery from the concussion he suffered Sunday. but Reid said McCoy seemed less affected after the game than Michael Vick had been right after his concussion, suffered the previous week against Dallas. Reid said both players are day-to-day. He said Vick feels better, but baseline testing Monday was not normal, which would seem to make it unlikely Vick will play a week from tonight against Carolina.
Reid said he still does not regret leaving McCoy in the Washington game, down 25 points with a minute and 45 seconds left.
"There are a few things that you wish wouldn't happen," said Reid, who seemed to be saying that players and coaches don't want to wave a white flag in the late stages of a loss. On Sunday, Reid had answered questions about McCoy remaining in the game nonsensically, talking about wanthing to catch up and win the game.
"I know we're letting the fans down and the city down," Reid said. "I completely understand that ... There are no excuses."
Reid said team chairman Jeffrey Lurie, who has not been available to reporters, "feels like I do, that we're letting people down."
Would you resign and lose next year's big contract? Of course not. If he's fired he still gets paid. He's no dummy.
BTW, who would replace him? One of his assistant coaches? Would that really be an improvement? Let's ride Andy to the first pick in the draft. Bartleby
Between the Eagles and Phillies the Phillies had the last win. Amazing stat this far into the season. sjfella

What a sad state we are in, can't even watch. Anyone want tickets to Monday's game? Flyers get the next win, and they're on strike, what a shame. Flyboy24- Our next head coach: Juan Castillo.
- Re-assessing, Juan must be the greatest defensive mind ever. Since he left, with the same personnel, the Eagles defense is giving up an 80% completion percentage and a passer rating over 140. Those are video game numbers. The difference can only be attributed to the difference between Juan and Bowles.

So much for seeing the Eagles on National TV games. I guess I'll have to buy Sunday Ticket from that monopoly at DirectTV if I want to see their games from now on. SteveS11
I've been saying it for 2 weeks. Lurie needs to show mercy on him and put him on leave. This is sad to watch, it really is. Let the man be with his family. Yes, 14 years this is really hard to do.. but in time, Reid will realize Jeff did the right thing. Freddy
MAYBE HE CAN'T STEP DOWN BECAUSE IN ACTUALITY, HE'S FALLEN DOWN.AND HE CAN'T GET UP! bkflyers10

I agree -- he sure sounds like he's begging to be fired. And, for you guys asking who should be his replacement this year, who cares at this point? You think anybody else could do any worse? And, if so, great. That puts us higher in the draft order. Lurie should fire him now, get rid of Howie at the same time, and install a GM that can actually judge talent prior to the draft. This GM should also be given the reigns to bring in his own coach. Also, at that time, new O, D, and Special Teams coaches should be brought on board. ghost of callison
I don't have a problem with Shady being in the game, but I have major problems with the play call. If you are just going to run it, why call timeout when Washington has the ball? Why not just kneel down? He should call timeout and then try to throw deep down field passes. Doing anything else is just giving up and running out the clock. It is inexcusable for someone to get hurt under those circumstances. The incoherent scenario that ended the first half by not allowing the Redskins to run out the clock, but gifting them with a field goal is beyond inexcusable, it would get a HS coach fired. And of course can anyone on the planet imagine that 11 random people off the street could give up worse passing numbers than the Eagles have for the last 4 weeks? It is historically shameful ineptness and Lurie/Reid are determined to give us more of the same. Absolutely no accountability. I hope nobody shows up on Monday. jtj06
