Putting out brush fires dept:

Agent Todd France told the Daily News today that Eagles running back Brian Westbrook did indeed have a minor arthroscopic procedure on his left knee, more than a month ago. Asked if Westbrook would be fine for minicamps, France said: "He's already fine. This was a long time ago. It was basically just a cleanup."

The Eagles never announced Westbrook's procedure. His left knee was a continuing irritation to him last season.

The Westbrook cleanup isn't nearly as significant news, of course, as the loss this past weekend of one of the franchise's all-time greats. Reaction continues to pour in on that, and it's kind of amusing to see the way some news outlets want to curry favor with the organization by pretending it's no big deal.

Click here for a sampling of how that reaction was running this morning.

WAIT! the eagles didnt inform the public, otherwise known as their fans, about surgery (however minor) of their best player. that irks me more than Dawkins. It's a privately-owned company, so they have no obligation, but I have trouble grasping their unwillingness to communicate with their base. Banner and Laurie would make great Burmese civil servants.

No worries, the Great Andy Reid has Lorenzo Booker waiting in the wings should Westbrook not be fine (insert heavy, heavy sarcasm here).

Here's what scares me. A comment by Stacy Andrews agent that he so greatly admires Eagles Athletic Trainer Rick B. and the way he handled Shawn's back condition. Note to agent: Rick B. mishandled Shawn's back by misdiagnosing the condition as NOT a disc herniation when in fact it was. Who knows how many hot packs he put over Shawn's hot and swollen lumbar disc? Shawn's surgery and rehab was greatly complicated by this blunder. Let's watch and see if Stacy's knee, which I'm sure Rick B. examined and passed, is stable enough to let him play, or if Rick B. (B. for Blunder) blows another one for the team.

As far as I know Doctors diagnose patients, not trainers. Trainers do not have MD after their names.

Italian Sausage you are a complete moron. How do you know what went on behind closed doors? How do you know what Burkholder's diagnosis of Andrews was? You take obscure quotes and ball them into a misquided post as if it were the gospel. You know nothing and never will. OH MY GOD, AFTER 72 HOURS OF FREE AGENCY THE EAGLES ARE FAILURES!!!!! THEY'RE DOOMED TO GO 4-12 NEXT YEAR!!!!! Shortsighted idiots.

Rustypop58: And if an AT makes a diagnosis, which is what came directly out of Andy Reid's mouth ("we know it's not a disc"), and who would have told him that since Shawn had not seen an MD at that point, wondo40, that's a felony in Pennsylvania. I stand behind the facts, Rick B. may a terrible blunder. Boys: Don't write checks your mouth can't cash.

It doesn't matter what is going on with Westbrook as the Front Office and Andy "I'm-so-religious-I-let-it-get-in-the-way-of-my-job" Reid will NEVER open their minds to what the franchise quarterback thinks and sign a receiver who can CATCH THE F***ING BALL!!!!! So, he is most likely going to leave which leaves Westbrook as the only offensive threat as Kevin Kolb has a spaghetti arm and will not be able to utilize DeSean's and Curtis' speed. Dark times, folks. Dark times coming....unless they sign someone soon.

Les BowenLes Bowen has covered the Eagles for the Daily News since 2002. Before that, he spent nearly 13 years covering the Flyers. It took Les only a few seasons after the switch to figure out that there was no penalty box at the Linc, and that the time really wasn't his, despite what Andy Reid kept saying. Les came to Philadelphia and the Daily News from Charlotte in 1983. In the intervening years, he has pretty much lost track of NASCAR, and his accent. He, his wife Barbara, and their two sons live in Haddon Township, New Jersey. E-mail Les at bowenl@phillynews.com and follow him on Twitter.

Paul DomowitchPaul Domowitch has been with the Daily News since 1982. He has spent most of his nearly 3 decades with the paper covering the Eagles and pro football. For the last 10 years, he’s been a selector for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A native of Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Wilkes University, Domo started his career in Texas, working first for the Midland Reporter-Telegram (1976-78), and then for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where he covered some god-awful Texas Ranger baseball teams. His first beat at the Daily News actually was boxing, which he covered just long enough to lose 2 sports coats to blood spatter before moving on to football. Domo and his wife Shelley, a University of Oklahoma grad who still hasn’t gotten over that Fiesta Bowl loss to Boise State 5 years ago, have 2 terrific daughters -- Allison, 28, who is an attorney in South Jersey, and Amy, 25, who works in administration for a professional baseball team.
