NEW YORK - Shane Victorino battled Mariano Rivera for 10 pitches before grounding out to second to end Game 6 of the World Series last night.

The Phillies centerfielder walked back to the dugout as the Yankees poured onto the field to celebrate their 27th championship, peeking back to see the opponents' joy.

"It was definitely hard to watch," Victorino said. "I can feel what [Eric] Hinske felt last year [when his strikeout lifted the Phillies to the world championship]. I guess I'm going to be on the highlights all offseason watching myself make the last out. I definitely didn't want to be that guy. I wanted to get on base somehow, someway, but it didn't work out that way."

Several Phillies players lingered in the dugout as the Yankees bounced around the infield in a group hug.

"Yeah, I took a peek," Ryan Howard said. "It was a little different on this side. We were there last year. The only thing we can do is go home, relax and come back ready for spring training." *

The National League Champion Phillies showed a lot of class last night. Real Phillies fans will continue to support you! Great job guys! And congratulations to the Yankees! Hopefully, what goes around comes around!

I love you guys. They may have come up short, but I would not trade this team for the Yankees for all the money in the world. Can't wait til next season!

Maybe if he didn't break back on that "single" that Godzilla drove in for a run or at least hit his weight during the series they'd still be playing. I really missed his seal claps.

thin slice of life
Cholly should of had a shorter leash last night on nonproducers with an all hands on deck attitude. He didn't make enough moves .He just stood there and let things unravel.

Well, no banquet circuit this off-season for Hamels. He needs to rest up, find the command on his fastball, and develop that third pitch, maybe a cutter to replace that curve so that we can have two aces.

I'm still prouder than hell. All of the haters need to remember the days of teh Rick Schu Experiment and when Shane Rawley was the staff ace.

Great job Phils. As others, I can't wait until spring training. But Reuben this is when you got to get busy - get us Halladay and you may have a sell out every game next season. Keep Lidge but need backup. If Thome is willing to sit how about replacing Matt Stairs wirh him. Imagine Thome as our DH in the WS. That's what LA got him for. Go Phils!

just a thought: 2 guys who seem to me that would fit in right away are Mark DeRosa and Jonathon Papelbon....Derosa is a FA and Papelbon could be had for a price;...probably either Hamels and a player or Werth and a player....might be worth checking into;....unless of course they determine that myers can in fact close,...but one thing is for sure,...moyer, martinez and lidge need to go

Papelbon for a price?!?!? C'mon dudes, it would take a farm for Papelbon. Best Closer in the A.L. That's as crazy as the dude that suggested we get Holiday as a FA. That would work only by trading Ibanez, but good luck with that.
