Game 127: Bernadina gets his first Phillies start

Phillies interim manager Ryne Sandberg said everybody would get a chance and he is proving that by giving newcomer Roger Bernadina his first start in tonight’s series finale at Citizens Bank Park against the Colorado Rockies.

Phillies interim manager Ryne Sandberg said everybody would get a chance and he is proving that by giving newcomer Roger Bernadina his first start in tonight’s series finale at Citizens Bank Park against the Colorado Rockies.

Bernadina was signed as a free agent on Wednesday after being released on Monday by the Washington Nationals.

He will start in center field tonight and hit eighth. Bernadina flew out to right as a pinch hitter for Cliff Lee in his Phillies first at-bat during Wednesday’s 4-3 win over Colorado

With Washington, he batted .178 in 152 at-bats with a .517 OPS.

The 29-year-old Bernadina is looking to regain the form of 2012 when he hit .291 with five home runs and 25 RBIs in 227 at-bats.

The Phillies are now 3-3 under Sandberg. Here is the their lineup.
