About the United States: Head coach Jill Ellis is transforming her team into one that plays with three defenders, five midfielders and two forwards instead of the 4-3-3 it played from the 2015 World Cup through last year's Olympics. . . . Ellis has started five of her six defenders in the two games so far. So her choices for the tournament finale could show who is atop the depth chart. . . . Ellis has also rotated many players at the outside midfield positions, which have more defensive responsibilities than in a four-back formation. . . . U.S. Soccer player of the year Tobin Heath has shown well on the right side. She is among Tuesday's potential starters, as are Crystal Dunn, 18-year-old Mallory Pugh and Rose Lavelle, this year's No. 1 pick in the National Women's Soccer League draft.

About France: Les Bleues are loaded with talent, especially in midfield. Camile Abily is a great creator alongside Amandine Henry, who plays for the NWSL's Portland Thorns. The defense is anchored by 6-foot-1 centerback Wendie Renard, who is also a big threat on set pieces. She scored the winning goal against England at Talen Energy Stadium by heading in a corner kick on the last play of the game.
