Here is a position-by-position preview of the 2016 Phillies and projections for the 2018 Phillies.

CATCHER

NOW:

Carlos Ruiz

The end is here for Ruiz, perhaps the most decorated catcher in franchise history. Four no-hitters caught. The eighth-most postseason starts for a catcher in history. Will he retire in a Phillies uniform?

LATER:

Jorge Alfaro

He has prodigious power, but Alfaro must prove this season that he can be a starting catcher. Injuries have slowed his progress. His game-calling skills drew criticism from some scouts, who believe Alfaro could ultimately move to first base or left field.
