Orlov, Ovechkin big in Caps' win

Dmitry Orlov scored with 5 minutes, 4 seconds remaining after Alex Ovechkin got a tying goal earlier in the period to help the Washington Capitals rally for a 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild on Friday.

Ovechkin got his league-leading 40th goal in the third period, and Brooks Orpik also scored while the NHL-best Capitals completed a four-game homestand with three wins.

Trades and contracts

The Chicago Blackhawkis traded defenseman Rob Scuderi back to the Los Angeles Kings in a deal for defenseman Christian Ehrhoff. Scuderi spent four seasons with the Kings from 2009-13. Ehrhoff had 10 points in 40 games for the Kings this season. . . . Defenseman Olli Maatta agreed to a six-year contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins through the 2021-22 season. Maatta has six goals and 10 assists in 53 games this season. . . . The Nashville Predators signed defenseman Anthony Bitetto to a two-year, $1.2 million contract. Bitetto has played 16 of his 17 games this season since Nashville traded defenseman Seth Jones to Columbus in January.

Hall of Famer dies

Hall of Fame winger Andy Bathgate, the NHL's MVP for the 1958-59 season, has died at age 83.

Bathgate played in eight All-Star Games. He spent just under 12 seasons with the New York Rangers before being traded to Toronto in 1964, when he won his only Stanley Cup. Bathgate also played for Detroit and Pittsburgh.
