Kaepernick asks 49ers to deal him

Hours after Chip Kelly assured reporters that Colin Kaepernick is excited to play for the 49ers this year, Kaepernick's agents requested a trade.

Hours after Chip Kelly assured reporters that Colin Kaepernick is excited to play for the 49ers this year, Kaepernick's agents requested a trade.

The NFL Network's Rand Getlin reported that Kaepernick's agents, Scott Smith and Jason Bernstein, met with team officials in Indianapolis Thursday afternoon.

Kaepernick was benched after eight games in 2015. Disparaging rumors leaked about how he conducted himself in the locker room preceding the move. Kaepernick also has had three surgeries since November - on his shoulder, knee, and thumb - all of which were performed by specialists in Vail, Colo., not by team doctors.

The 49ers are not believed to have begun trade discussions. If they do, they likely would target an AFC team. The Broncos, Browns, Jets, and Texans have a need at quarterback.

Manziel case

Dallas police say they are taking their domestic violence case against Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel to a grand jury to decide whether he should be charged.

Police said they completed their investigation into a Jan. 30 incident in which the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner's ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, alleged he attacked her. Manziel has not been arrested.

Crowley alleged that the former Texas A&M star accosted her several times at a Dallas hotel, then later struck her when they drove back to her apartment in Fort Worth.
