Peters leaves with injury; Eagles shuffle line again

DETROIT - Jason Peters exited the Eagles' 45-14 loss to the Detroit Lions in the first quarter Thursday with a left ankle injury. He did not return.

DETROIT - Jason Peters exited the Eagles' 45-14 loss to the Detroit Lions in the first quarter Thursday with a left ankle injury. He did not return.

The Eagles moved Lane Johnson to left tackle and inserted Dennis Kelly at right tackle. The offensive line missed Peters. The Eagles allowed six sacks and could open space for only 68 rushing yards.

"I got rolled up," Peters said. "I thought I could come back. And then when I started putting pressure on it, it was just too weak to try to go out there. I didn't feel I could help the team to go out there."

Peters has been durable during the last two seasons, but injuries have bothered him this year. He missed two games with a back injury and played every offensive snap in only two games this season.

"I play hurt all the time, but right now, I've just got bad luck as far as injuries," Peters said. "One week, I'm getting rolled up on. The next week, I'm getting kicked in the quad."

Bradford sits out

Sam Bradford did not play even though he was questionable and was a full participant in practice on Wednesday. Coach Chip Kelly said Bradford is "not cleared to go full-go right now" because of his separated left shoulder.

Bradford was hopeful to play, but the short week complicated his return. This was the second game he missed. Mark Sanchez went 19 of 27 for 199 yards with two touchdowns and one fumble in Bradford's absence. The Eagles are off until Tuesday, so Bradford will have time to heal before the Dec. 6 game against the New England Patriots.

Reynolds gets a chance

The Eagles played safety Ed Reynolds for the first time in his career. The 2014 fifth-round pick was on the practice squad last year and much of this year. The team promoted him last week, but he did not play in Sunday's loss. He had a role as a dime safety on Thursday.

For the first time this season, the Eagles kept eight offensive linemen active for the game. With center Jason Kelce questionable because of a knee injury, both Josh Andrews and Julian Vandervelde were in uniform as reserve interior offensive linemen. Vandervelde did not enter the game.

The Eagles played with only two tight ends for the first time this season because Zach Ertz was out with a concussion. Trey Burton finished with two catches for 49 yards, including a 43-yarder that was the first reception of his career.

In addition to Ertz, running back Ryan Mathews missed the game because of a concussion. The healthy scratches were wide receiver Jonathan Krause, cornerback Denzel Rice, offensive lineman Tanner Hawkinson, and defensive end Brandon Bair.
