'GameDay' rumored to be heading to Philly for Owls-Irish tilt

Nothing is official yet, but nationally ranked Temple is drawing attention after improving to 7-0.

WILL LEE CORSO dress as an Owl for Halloween?

Right now, it's only buzz, but rumors have begun to swirl that Corso and his cohorts on ESPN's "College GameDay" are heading to Philadelphia for Temple's big showdown with Notre Dame next Saturday at 8 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field.

After the No. 22 Owls held off Eastern Carolina, 24-14, on Thursday night to improve to 7-0 for the first time in history, ESPN's "SportsCenter" noted in a tweet that their last win as a ranked team came in 1941 - a tweet that was retweeted by the "GameDay" Twitter account.

"GameDay" co-host Rece Davis hinted as much, noting on "SportsCenter" Friday that Philadelphia was the "clubhouse leader" to host the daylong show on Halloween.

Officially, the network has made no decision and likely won't until Saturday night, possibly waiting until Sunday to make the announcement.

If it does come to Philly, where would the signature college football program set up shop? It prides itself on playing up to the hometown crowd and celebrating the college revelry (and sometimes rivalry).

Radio station 97.5 The Fanatic tweeted Friday that on-air personality Mike Missanelli's sources were telling him the show would air from Independence Mall.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Business Journal reported on its website that a site close to the Linc, possibly Xfinity Live!, was the likely location for the daylong preview and highlights show.

The program stars Davis, Corso and Kirk Herbstreit, with Corso, 80, famous for donning mascot heads.

The Owls drew notice right from the start by toppling heavily favored Penn State, 27-10, on Sept. 5 at the Linc. A 30-16 win last Saturday over Central Florida moved Temple into the Associated Press poll for the first time since 1979.

The No. 11 Irish have a bye this week and head to the sold-out Linc next Saturday with a 6-1 record.

Previously, 'GameDay' announced it would be in Philadelphia for the Dec. 12 Army-Navy game. It has been here once before, in 2002, for Harvard at Penn.
