NFL: NFLPA releases Brady's testimony

The public now has more information to decide whether New England quarterback Tom Brady was truthful about deflated footballs.

The public now has more information to decide whether New England quarterback Tom Brady was truthful about deflated footballs.

The NFL Players Association released the 457-page transcript of his June testimony in the deflated balls controversy in a filing Tuesday in Manhattan federal court. In it, Brady denies tampering with footballs in the AFC championship game, or telling anyone to do so.

Last week, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell upheld a four-game suspension of Brady.

The league then asked federal Judge Richard Berman to find that the NFL acted properly. Berman has ordered Brady and Goodell to appear before him next week. He has urged them to settle.

Gronk in the fold

The Patriots reworked tight end Rob Gronkowski's contract, paying a reported $4 million of the $10 million bonus he had coming after the 2015 season. According to reports, the paying of that bonus would guarantee the rest of his deal through 2019.

Report: Foster out

Houston running back Arian Foster probably will need surgery for a groin injury he suffered in the team's first training camp practice with full pads, ESPN reported. Foster likely will miss the start of the regular season, according to the report. He could be placed on short-term injured reserve, which would allow the Texans to bring him back after Week 8.

Clowney's father arrested

The father of Houston Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting in Rock Hill, S.C.

David Morgan also was charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime, Rock Hill Police Capt. Mark Bollinger said Tuesday. Morgan was in custody awaiting a bond hearing, Bollinger said.

Ex-Lion Mel Farr dies

Mel Farr, a former NFL offensive rookie of the year who rushed for more than 3,000 yards in seven pro seasons with the Detroit Lions, has died. He was 70.

Farr, a running back, played college football at UCLA and finished seventh in the voting for the 1966 Heisman Trophy. He was drafted in 1967 in the first round by the Lions and ran for 860 yards in 13 games as a rookie. Farr spent his entire NFL career with Detroit, from 1967-73.

Farr's brother, Miller, and two sons, Mel Jr. and Mike, also played in the NFL.
