Sixers will probably be quiet during free-agency period

Don't expect Sixers to make a big signing, if any at all, during NBA's free-agent signing period, which began today.

TODAY MARKS the beginning of free agency in the NBA, but it doesn't appear that the 76ers will be big players during the time. A source indicated that the team would do what it can to improve the team, but didn't expect it to be major players.

It was reported yesterday that Chicago Bulls restricted free agent Jimmy Butler did have an interview set up with several teams, including the Sixers, but canceled, once Chicago offered him a deal of $90 million over five years.

The Sixers did not extend an offer to swingman Glenn Robinson III, allowing him to become a free agent.

The Sixers did release invitees to their minicamps leading into the Utah Summer League, which takes place July 6-9, and the Las Vegas Summer League (July 10-20).

The biggest news is that new draft pick Jahlil Okafor is expected to participate in both leagues. His fellow draft choices from last week, Richaun Holmes and J.P. Tokoto, will both play in Utah.

Current Sixers players Furkan Aldemir and Jerami Grant will play in Utah, while JaKarr Sampson, Jordan McRae and Pierre Jackson highlight the Las Vegas roster. La Salle grad Steve Zack is also among the invitees to Las Vegas.
