Austin Jamerson, Latesha Bigby off to winning starts at Penn Relays

Jamerson, of Cornell, won the decathlon while Bigby, of Northern Illiniois took first place in the heptathlon.

CORNELL'S AUSTIN Jamerson won the decathlon and Northern Illinois' Latesha Bigby took first place in the heptathlon at the 121st Penn Relays yesterday at Franklin Field.

Jamerson finished with a two-day score of 7,015 points, while runner-up Vinny Biunno of Franklin Pierce had 6,366.

Bigby finished with two-day total of 5,146 points, which is the most at the Penn Relays since Maddy Outman won the 2010 title with 5,182.

Bigby outlasted defending champion Noel Jancewicz of Penn, who finished with 5,051 points.

Jamerson took first places in the long jump (22-feet, 8 1/2-inches), high jump (6-8 1/4), pole vault (14-1 1/4), javelin (146-4) and 110-meter hurdles (15.08 seconds).

Bigby won the 100-meter hurdles (13.97 seconds), 200-meter dash (25.12) and 800-meter run (2 minutes, 18.19 seconds).

Katherine Petruzzelis of Villanova finished fourth with 4,907 points.
