Olympic Colonial wins Carpenter opener

Joe Craig belted a pinch-hit, two-run home run to lead Olympic Colonial past Delaware North, 3-2, Thursday in the first game of the 29th annual Carpenter Cup Classic baseball tournament at Ashburn Field in South Philadelphia.

Craig (Camden Catholic) gave Olympic Colonial a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning.

Tom Flacco (Eastern) doubled, stole third, and scored on an error to open the scoring. Nick DiEva (Cherry Hill East) earned the win, allowing one unearned run and striking out two in three innings of relief.

Burlington County 8, Lehigh Valley 4 - Collin Stringham (Holy Cross) blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning for Burlington County. Christian DeLuca (Cinnaminson) drove in two runs and scored twice.

The day's third game, between Tri-Cape and the Philadelphia Catholic League, was postponed because of rain and rescheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday.
