Sat. Pa. wrestling roundup: Aces triumph on final-match decision

All eyes were on Lower Merion's Cody Kaplan in the final bout of his team's wrestling match with visiting Pocono Mountain East on Saturday.

With the match score tied at 30, Kaplan delivered three team points with a 9-3 decision over Gino Giunta in the 135-pound bout as the Aces earned a 33-30 nonleague win.

In other nonleague matches:

Mike Pommerer's first-period pin of Gary Robinson at 112 pounds clinched Downingtown West's 41-31 win at Father Judge. The highlight for the Crusaders came from heavyweight Jeremy Rieth, who decisioned Colin Tascione, 2-1, in one of the match's feature bouts.

Host Germantown Academy beat Northfield Mt. Herman (Ma.), 40-24, behind first-period pins from Chris Dinnien (125) and B.J. Crozier (135). The Patriots also fell to Wyoming Seminary, 40-20.

Zach Trauger had a 48-second pin at 189 to highlight host Haverford School's 55-12 win over St. Alban's (Md.). The Fords also beat St. Mary's (Md.), 70-10.

Other first-period pins for the Fords came from Ben Grobman (103), Dylan Anderson (119), John Sacharok (140), Joseph Raymond (171) and Chris DiBello (215).

Neshaminy got a three pins in a 37-21 win over visiting Unionville. Heavyweight Tyler Stabilito earned a second-period pin and the Redskins got third-period pins from Tyler Fee (140) and Brendan Hastings (152).

Catholic. La Salle topped visiting Roman Catholic, 69-12, getting a 13-second pin from Conor Murphy at 145 for his first-ever varsity win.

The Explorers also traveled to St. Joseph's Prep and earned a 64-6 win, getting first-period pins from Pat McGinley (103), Shane Springer (130) and Nick Burns (171).

Suburban One National. Eric Gary nipped Max Greenberg, 4-3, at 160 to clinch host Bensalem's 34-30 win over Abington.

Ches-Mont. Wins by forfeit in the final two bouts gave host Octorara a 39-38 win over Great Valley. Alex Roy (215) and heavyweight Matt Harper were awarded forfeits.

The Patriots' last lead, 38-27, came at 189 when Brian Curless pinned Nick Prange in the first period.

Pioneer Athletic. Eddie Kriczky won by technical fall over Joe Savella, 18-2 (3:12 fall time), to clinch Boyertown's 35-31 win over visiting Methacton. Kriczky's five team points gave the Bears a 35-25 lead with one bout remaining.

Host Upper Perkiomen overwhelmed Phoenixville, 62-9, as Dylan Steffenino had a 12-second pin to open the match at 112.

Pottsgrove swept eight straight bouts, from 171 through 125, in a 51-21 win at Pope John Paul II.

The Falcons Danny Michaels (171) picked up a second-period pin, and that was followed by consecutive pins from Tyler Wysochanski (189), Tom Sephakis (215) and Chris Nester (Hwt.).

After Brandon Pence was awarded a forfeit at 103, Pottsgrove also registered pins by Matt Cimino (112) and Nico Demetrio (119). Qwhadir Miller's 6-3 decision at 125 gave Pottsgrove a 45-3 lead.

Delco Christian Invitational. Dominic Sciroto decisioned Annapolis (Md.) Christian's Sam Fontz, 19-11, in the 140-pound championship finals and was named the most valuable wrestler for team champion Lower Moreland.

Konkrete Duals. At Northampton, North Penn's Joey O'Brien decisioned Tyler Cross, 2-0, in the 112-pound bout on the way to a 43-27 win over Washington. Pennridge also defeated Washington, 64-14, and fell to Pittston Area, 40-30. Emmaus beat North Penn, 46-24.

The highlight for the Rams came in the match's first bout, 160, when Rich Jasinski pinned John Minich in 43 seconds.
