Eagles' Weaver: Torn ACL felt as horrific as it looked

The Eagles fullback was about to be placed on injured reserve after suffering what Andy Reid termed a "very severe" anterior cruciate ligament tear, when his left leg bent backward during a tackle by Green Bay linebacker Nick Barnett. (The team officially announced Weaver and center Jamaal Jackson were on IR yesterday evening; fullback Owen Schmitt has been signed and tight end/fullback Garrett Mills has been promoted from the practice squad.)

"It felt horrible, man, it felt awful," Weaver said as he hobbled past the NovaCare auditorium on crutches. "I don't think I've ever felt anything like that."

Reid was asked whether Weaver's injury could be career-threatening.

"Well, they're going to have to get in there and see exactly [what's wrong]. That's why I just labeled it as I did. I think we all saw it, it wasn't a pretty picture. So, from ACL standpoints, it was severe," Reid said. "They won't know the further damage, if any, until they get in there. But obviously, just from the look of things, it was severe."

"We'll see how things go from here," said Weaver, a Pro Bowler last season. "We really don't know what's going on right now."

Weaver said he saw the replay of his injury yesterday morning and "it looked pretty nasty, especially at the end part, where it kind of looked like it bent all the way back. All I remember thinking about is the pain, how awful it felt going down to the ground."

Weaver said he considers himself "very fortunate and blessed that I do have my leg intact."

Center Jamaal Jackson's season-ending injury is a torn right triceps, not biceps, as the Eagles said Sunday . . . Offensive lineman Fenuki Tupou, who didn't survive the final roster cutdown, was brought back to fill Garrett Mills' spot on the practice squad . . . Michael Vick said that after viewing the tape, he agreed he should have run the ball in for a TD on third-and-goal from the 5 in the fourth quarter, instead of throwing a pass that fell incomplete. He said he sometimes feels "selfish" if he takes off and runs too much . . . The concussions to Kevin Kolb and Stewart Bradley, you know about, along with the season-ending injuries to Leonard Weaver and Jamaal Jackson. Yesterday's injury roll call included defensive end Antwan Barnes, who has a wrist sprain. Running back Mike Bell has a right toe strain, defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley and left guard Todd Herremans have ankle sprains, Andy Reid said. Defensive tackle Trevor Laws (oblique) and left tackle Jason Peters (knee) should be OK to practice, Reid said. *
