Temple's Pierce will miss Ohio game
The 6-foot, 212-pound Pierce, a native of Ardmore, set Temple freshman records for rushing yards with 1,308 and touchdowns with 15. He played only during the Owls' first possession Saturday.
At 9-2 overall and 7-0 in the MAC, Temple will be without its top playmaker in a game that will decide the league's East Division champion. Temple is in first place, but Ohio (8-3, 6-1) could wrest the title away with a victory because of the head-to-head tiebreaker.
In Pierce's absence Saturday, Matt Brown - a 5-5, 167-pound freshman - rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Running backs Lamar McPherson and Zack Collins combined for nine carries against Kent State.
After Temple won its ninth straight game, a single-season school record, coach Al Golden said he would consider returning sophomore Kee-ayre Griffin to running back, a position he played until he was moved to defensive back two weeks ago.
