Delaware County will be strongly represented when the PIAA District 1 Class AAAA and Class AAA playoffs begin this weekend. Six of the Delco 7 teams will advance to the postseason, with four of the six teams facing rematches of games played earlier this season.

In Class AAAA, North Penn (10-0) is the No. 1 seed, with Garnet Valley (9-1), Delco's No. 1 team, finishing No. 3 in the point standings. The Jaguars, however, have a tough task in their opening-round game Friday at 7 p.m., hosting Central League rival Penncrest (7-3), the No. 14 seed, which lost to Garnet Valley on Sept. 25, 28-27.

Ridley (9-1), co-champion of the Central League with Garnet Valley, is the No. 7 seed and will host No. 10 seed Council Rock South (8-2) Friday at 7 p.m.

In Class AAA, Pottsgrove (10-0) is the No. 1 seed, with 12-time Del Val League champion Interboro (10-0) at No. 2. Like Garnet Valley, however, the Bucs will host a league rival, Academy Park (7-3), the No. 7 seed, at 7 p.m. Friday.

Marple Newtown (7-3) rounds out the Delco schools playing in the postseason, earning the No. 6 seed in AAA, opening at No. 3 Owen J. Roberts (9-1).

In AAAA, the eight teams with the highest point average will host the first-round games, with the higher seed maintaining home field throughout the tournament. The same format follows for AAA, with the higher-seeded team hosting throughout the district playoffs.
