Alex Rodriguez and Ken Griffey Jr. made history Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium, marking only the second time in the majors that two players with at least 550 career home runs hit homers in the same game.According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Hank Aaron and Willie Mays homered in a Braves-Giants game in 1971.
Leyritz jailed
Former Yankee Jim Leyritz was sent to jail for the Fourth of July weekend after his arrest early yesterday morning in Davie, Fla., on charges of domestic battery.Leyritz, 45, is accused of dragging his ex-wife out of bed and pushing her to the floor because she wrote a check without his permission, police said, adding that they found her bleeding from a cut above her eye.
One Broward County judge set Leyritz's bail at $1,000, but another revoked his bond in a DUI manslaughter case stemming from a fatal 2007 crash.
Leyritz said his ex-wife hurt herself to get back at him because he wants to evict her from the house they share.
"That's ridiculous," Karrie Leyritz said.
Millions loaned to Rangers
Major League Baseball has loaned millions to Texas Rangers owner Tom Hicks, Yahoo reported.The league would not go into details about any borrowing, but said it was helping Rangers owner Tom Hicks with the sale of the franchise. Hicks did not respond to an e-mail seeking comment.
"Tom is the control person, and there was no issue of making payroll," Bob DuPuy, baseball's chief operating officer, said yesterday.
Yahoo!, citing a major league source, first reported yesterday that a loan was made to Hicks Sports Group and that the amount was believed to be less than $15 million.

Cuba's Aroldis Chapman, who has a 100-m.p.h. fastball, defected from the national team during a tournament in the Netherlands, according to ESPN The Magazine. Many scouts consider the 21-year-old to be the No. 1 lefthanded prospect in the world. . . . Cleveland got reliever Winston Abreu from Tampa Bay for minor-league righthander John Meloan. . . . Minnesota said it would bring up lefthander Brian Duensing from triple-A Rochester today.
