A ticket for last night's Game 1 wound up averaging $221, according to StubHub's report yesterday. That's $73 more than the average for tickets to the National League Division Series vs. the Brewers. But likely as a sign of the economic times and the fact that the Phillies are in the playoffs for the second straight year, it's about $50 cheaper than tickets to last year's NLDS against the Rockies.
Of course, that's somewhere around $150 or $160 over face value and over what the tickets cost for the Phillies-Dodgers series here in late August. The cheapest ticket someone bought was $75 for standing room; the most expensive went for $995 in the Diamond Club. StubHub also noted on its report that buyers from 31 states bought tickets for the games: 57 percent from Pennsylvania, 24 percent from New Jersey and 5 percent from Delaware.
Figure that price to go a little higher for tonight's game; and they escalate for Game 6 ($246) and Game 7 ($273). World Series tickets? Those that have sold are costing $856 on average.
Bloggers, commentators and the like have had a field day the past 36 hours taking published slapshots at the Flyers for choosing to bring in Sarah Palin to drop the puck for tomorrow night's opener. No word on whether the mayor will change the name of the Walt Whitman span to the Bridge to Nowhere for the evening.
Be aware that the Phantoms still have V.P. Night on their schedule for a game Oct. 18 vs. Birmingham at the Wachovia Spectrum. The plans, rolled out a couple of weeks ago, will include:
* Patriotic decor in the concourse.
* Half-price admission to all Delaware and Alaska residents and no charge for any kids who share the same first name as one of Palin's children.
* Several prizes, including an Alaskan King Crab dinner for two at Shuckers Pier 13 in Dover, Del.
So might Joe Biden show up to even the franchise's political slate? You never know. *
