Eagles Notes: For eight players, a day to forget

Eagles Notes

The magic number this morning is 14. That's how many players general manager Tom Heckert and head coach Andy Reid have to lose to get the roster to the 53-man limit.

Yesterday, the Birds released eight players: receivers Bam Childress and Jamal Jones, cornerbacks Nick Graham and Therrian Fontenot, safety Marcus Paschal, running back Ryan Moats, offensive lineman Stefan Rodgers, and linebacker Pago Togafau. The cuts left the roster at 67.

Jean-Gilles' injury

No news is usually good news, but when a player has a knee injury being checked and there's no medical update, that's usually a strong indication it's bad.

That appears to be the case with guard Max Jean-Gilles, who was assisted off the field Thursday night in the final four minutes of the 27-20 loss to the Jets.

Reid announced after the game that Jean-Gilles had a sprained left knee. An MRI exam was given yesterday, but the club did not announce the results, and likely won't until this morning.

Jean-Gilles is the Birds' second-string backup to Shawn Andrews. Until Andrews arrived at camp in mid-August, Jean-Gilles appeared to be the starting right guard. This would be a huge loss for the Eagles if the injury is serious.
