Letters: MY OWN PERSONAL SPECTRUM MEMORIES
AFTER READING your 10 most memorable moments in Spectrum history I wanted to share my list of memorable moments spent at the soon-to-be-gone Spectrum and recently gone Vet. Plus a few from Connie Mack and JFK.
Starting with the Spectrum:
It was pre-cup days for the Flyers as they battled the rugged St. Louis Blues. I was only eight or 10, but I remember a big fight after a period ended and some fans got into it with some angry Blues when their coach got a beer shower. This was before the Broad Street Bullies era - and the Blues and Boston Bruins were in the habit of roughing up the Flyers.
The Who concert, December 1975: My first show. All four original members were there, including Keith Moon and John Entwistle.
Flyers early to mid-'80s opening game of the cup finals against Gretzky and the Oilers. The Flyers won game one but lost the series.
Sixers 1983 final with the Lakers. Sixers win Game 1 and sweep the Lakers in "Fo-Fo-Fo," which I believe was Moses Malone's chant.
Pink Floyd Animals Tour. Only time I saw Waters, Wright, Gilmour and Mason together. Great show.
The Vet:
Probably the greatest sports event in my lifetime, Dad and Me weathered below-zero temps to see the Eagles-Cowboys NFC Championship in January 1981. Birds win 20-7 and go to the Super Bowl. After Wilbert Montgomery ran wild for a TD on the first drive, I new they couldn't lose.
Mike Quick Goes 99 yards for an OT game-winning TD against the Falcons in the early '80s.
"Sarge" Mathews powers Phils past Dodgers for trip to the '83 World Series.
Hundreth anniversary Army-Navy game with my dad.
Concerts by the Stones. One I took my mom to and another my future wife. Two more Pink Floyd shows.
JFK Stadium:
Yes-Frampton in 1976, first concert with my friends.
The Stones and the Who in early '80s.
A soccer match featuring the great Pele playing for U.S. team against the English national team.
Connie Mack Stadium:
Late '60s Camera Day on the old field near the great big wall in right field where you could leave the park through a door from the field after the game.
Well that's it - hope you enjoy your own memories.

Bringing China closer
The Olympics are coming. I can't believe the amount of sarcastic reputation the announcement of NBC's coverage plans received.
This is a chance to watch the world's best from inside the Great Wall of an ancient culture and its billion-plus people. In a world of instant access, China's far-off perception will evaporate. Her people, heretofore a mystery, will now be neighbors.
Watching Allison Felix burn the 200 meters in the shadow of ancient Asia's world wonder is, to me, a dream come true. This is one planet, one world. We have ONE great opportunity to learn about it. Embrace it.
