While they are still in need of a free-agent defenseman, the Flyers opened their shopping this afternoon by signing center Glen Metropolit.
Metropolit, 34, who scored 11 goals and 22 assists in 82 games for the Boston Bruins, agreed to a 2-year contract that will pay him $1 million a year.
In other transactions, the Flyers signed minor league forward Nate Raduns, 24, who played last season for the Worcester Sharks in the American Hockey League, and traded Denis Gauthier and a 2010 draft pick to Los Angeles for defenseman Patrik Hersley and left wing Ned Lukacevic. Hersley and Lukacevic played last season in the Kings' minor league system.
They also signed unrestricted free-agent defensemen Ossi Vaananen to a 1-year deal and Sean Curry to a 2-year deal. Vaananen played in Sweden this past season, while Curry played for Providence, of the AHL.
