Carey, a 5-foot-10 senior-to-be point guard, has orally committed to play basketball at Villanova.
Carey also had considered Virginia, Syracuse, St. Joseph's and Richmond, among others. She visited each of those schools.
"The recruiting process was tough, took up a lot of time," she said. "I'm glad it's over. I wanted to make a decision before July, and I was able to do that."
For Germantown Academy, which last season went 22-8 overall and won its 10th straight Inter-Academic League championship, Carey averaged 10.7 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals per game. She was a third-team all-Southeastern Pennsylvania selection by The Inquirer.
Another Inter-Ac senior-to-be, Notre Dame Academy point guard Devon Kane, committed to Villanova last week.
"Harry Perretta is a legendary coach," said Carey, an 18-year-old from Doylestown. "He runs a very team-oriented offense, with a lot of cutting and passing. I think that definitely fits my style of game."
Ryan chooses Rutgers. Eastern quarterback-cornerback Logan Ryan has become the latest South Jersey football standout to make an oral commitment to attend Rutgers. The 5-11, 176-pound Ryan made the commitment today.
He became the third South Jersey player in a week to make a commitment to Rutgers, joining Penns Grove running back-defensive back Aaron Hayward and Paulsboro quarterback-safety Gerald Hodges.
Ryan is considered one of the top cornerback prospects in New Jersey. He had 40 tackles in addition to rushing for 592 yards and 13 touchdowns and passing for 899 yards and five touchdowns.
"Rutgers is the hometown school, and I felt I developed the best relationship with Rutgers," Ryan said. "I felt extremely close to the program."
According to Ryan, the other schools besides Rutgers that offered him scholarships were West Virginia, Virginia, Boston College, Maryland, Iowa, Purdue, Michigan State, Cincinnati and Akron.
Ryan said he chose Rutgers over Virginia.
