Flyers 4, Penguins 2
How it happened: The Flyers made their lives easier last night by scoring first. Joffrey Lupul's deflected shot midway through the first period gave the Flyers their first lead of the series since the first period of Game 1. Later, they would make it adventurous.
What it means: There will be a Game 5 on Sunday in Pittsburgh at 3 p.m. In the previous five occurrences, the Flyers had never won a Game 4 when trailing a series 3-0.
Hero(es): Danny Briere had his strongest game and scored his first goal of the series. Pittsburgh's Jordan Staal, who flew to Thunder Bay, Ontario, for his grandfather's funeral during Wednesday's off-day, scored the Penguins' two goals in the third period.
Goat: Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury had his first flat performance of the series. He entered the game with .936 save percentage for the series, but allowed two goals in the Flyers' first six shots.
Biggest hit: Flyers forward Scottie Upshall put himself in a vulnerable position while going all out to negate an icing infraction in the second period. Upshall was smeared into the glass by Pens defenseman Kris Letang, but accomplished his mission.
Key stat: The Penguins are 9-0 this playoff season when scoring first, something they obviously didn't do last night.
Best text: The Flyers have a system where fans can send text messages that are then displayed on the Jumbotron. Best pregame missive: "I can't pay my electric bill because I spent all my money on these tickets. Let's Go Flyers!"
Never a doubt: Yeah, right. The Flyers carried a 3-0 lead into the third period and tortured the 19,972 at the Wachovia Center by allowing two third-period goals. Lupul's empty-netter with 33 seconds left finally allowed the faithful to exhale.
