Miami-Dade County State Attorney's Office spokesman Ed Griffith said yesterday that 16-year-old Timothy Brown was charged with first-degree murder under a sealed warrant, as well as armed burglary.

The 24-year-old Taylor died of massive blood loss after he was shot at his Miami-area home during a botched robbery in November.

Brown was being held in Lee County, Fla. It was not immediately known when he would be transferred to Miami-Dade County.

Browns. Tight end Kellen Winslow, who underwent off-season knee surgery and is recovering in San Diego, has made it clear he wants Cleveland to redo his contract and has stayed away from this week's voluntary minicamp.

Winslow missed most of his first two seasons in the league with injuries. He has three years left on a contract the Browns restructured after he missed an entire year following a motorcycle accident.

Browns general manager Phil Savage has said the team has no intention of reworking Winslow's contract.

Also, the Browns cut backup defensive back Kenny Wright, who was arrested last month on marijuana possession charges in Texas. He has played in 133 career games for five NFL teams.

Ravens. Baltimore has reached a compromise with franchise player Terrell Suggs, his agent said.

Suggs filed a grievance against the team in March after the Ravens tagged him with a one-year, $8.065 million deal as a linebacker. He was seeking to be paid the defensive end franchise designation of $8,879,000.

Now, Suggs will be paid a one-year tender worth nearly $8.5 million as a defensive end/linebacker, according to his agent, Gary Wichard.

Noteworthy. Former NFL center Curtis Whitley, 39, who played for three teams in the 1990s and had a history of substance use, was found dead Sunday in his trailer home in Fort Stockton, Texas.

Pecos County sheriff Cliff Harris said there was no sign of foul play, but the death remained under investigation.

Whitley played for San Diego, Carolina and Oakland from 1992 to '97 and was suspended twice for violating the league's drug policy.
