Turning point: Down by 15 points with just over 6 minutes left in the third quarter, the Sixers held the Pistons scoreless for nearly 4 minutes and cut their lead to five points.
Hero: Replaced as a starter for the playoffs, Reggie Evans came off the bench and collected 14 rebounds and scored nine points.
Are you kidding me?
Evans dropped a sweet 17-foot jump shot with the shot clock expiring to push the Sixers ahead, 82-79. Yes, Reggie Evans.
Goats: Seasoned playoff performers Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince were a combined 10-for-30. One possible explanation: They took turns chasing Andre Iguodala all game. Hamilton also turned the ball over four times.
Goat to hero: This was shaping up as a bad night for Andre Iguodala until he grabbed two huge rebounds and made five of six free throws with under 12 seconds left to hold the Pistons at bay. Iguodala was 4-for-15 from the field.
Rich man, poor man: Rasheed Wallace had a huge game. He scored eight of the Pistons' first 12 points and ended the first half with 13 points, six rebounds and five blocked shots. For the game, he scored 24 points and blocked seven shots, but his short miss with 10 seconds left was critical to the loss. "That was a bunny I should have had," he said.
Key number: The Sixers scored 18 points off turnovers while Detroit ran its vaunted set plays.
What's next: Game 2 is Wednesday at the Palace of Auburn Hills at 7:30 p.m.
