Setback for Phils pitcher Benson

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- It was a long shot that pitcher Kris Benson would be ready by Opening Day. Now it is a certainty that he won't.

Benson, a righthander acquired as a free agent last month, missed a scheduled start today. There was no official word yet from the Phillies. Benson's best guess is that it is "biceps tendinitis."

Benson hopes to be able to throw again in a week. When he is ready to start this season, it will be in the minor leagues.
