Let's talk Phillies

SEEING AS IT HAS been 14 years, we will dedicate today's version of H&I to the 2007 National League East Division champion

Just the facts

You can talk about heart and courage and all that nice stuff, but if you really want to put your finger on why the Phillies did what they did this year, how about how well they performed after the All-Star break, going 45-29? Oddly enough, the Phillies went 45-30 over the same span last season.

Could it be?

Ryan Howard won the NL MVP award last year. Jimmy Rollins this year? Should be. A look at other teammates in the NL to win back-to-back MVPs:

During Mass yesterday morning at St. Charles Borromeo, in Washington Township, N.J., Fr. Rob Sinatra started his sermon by asking for prayers for two people: Marlins pitcher Dontrelle Willis and Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer.

"May Dontrelle Willis pitch like Satchel Paige against the Mets," he prayed, then added: "And may Jamie Moyer pitch like a 23-year-old."

To which a parishioner muttered, "Adam Eaton isn't 23, is he?"

Gotta love Philly sports fans. *
