Michael Shafer's squad used a torrid three-point attack, making 13 of 19 from beyond the arc, to roll over La Salle, 70-48, last night at Tom Gola Arena.
But once again, an area player recruited by the Spiders (9-12, 3-3 A-10) starred for the visitors.
Sophomore Sarah Williams, a 6-foot-1 guard from Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, made 4 of 5 attempts on three-point shots and tied Danielle Bell for team scoring honors at 16 points.
Carlene Hightower and Crista Ricketts each scored 18 points for La Salle (15-6, 3-3).
"I claim Philly," Williams said of her roots. "But it's just a big win for our team on the road. I'm just looking forward to the rest of the season with high expectations."
On the Spiders' last visit here, Archbishop Carroll alum Katie Holzer was a key performer. Last night, she was 3 for 3 from the field and scored eight points.
Richmond has one more visit here, Feb. 9 at Temple.
"When you shoot the three 13 for 19, you're going to be in a lot of basketball games," Shafer said. "Going in, we didn't mind Ricketts and Hightower getting their points. What we wanted to do is not let anybody else score."
La Salle's school-record six-game home winning streak ended. Its 0-for-8 effort on three-pointers marked the first time in 121 games that the Explorers had failed to convert, dating from Jan. 10, 2003, against Dayton.
The Explorers never led and trailed by 27 points with 6 minutes, 4 seconds remaining.
"They buried us today," La Salle coach Tom Lochner said. "They did anything they wanted. They scored inside, passed the ball well. We had no answer for anything they did."
The Explorers host No. 11 George Washington tomorrow at 1 p.m.
