WILMINGTON, N.C. - Good free-throw shooting and solid defense carried Drexel past North Carolina-Wilmington, 66-50, last night as the Dragons earned their first win on the Seahawks' court since joining the Colonial Athletic Association six seasons ago.

The Dragons (15-4, 7-2) had lost five straight in Wilmington, but this is not the usual Seahawks powerhouse. They fell to 4-14 overall and 1-6 in the CAA.

Wilmington has lost 10 of its last 11 games.

But it was still a good win for Drexel, which won its third straight despite playing without Chaz Crawford. The forward sat out with a bruised shin suffered last week.

The Dragons put it away early. After breaking a 2-2 tie with nine straight points, they never trailed.

Junior center Frank Elegar scored 17 points, including 9-for-10 shooting from the foul line. Scott Rodgers added 15 points, going 5 for 6 from the floor.

Bashir Mason scored 11 points, raising his career total to 997.

The Dragons won the game at the foul line in the second half, hitting 19 of 22 free throws. They made only seven field goals in the half, but the Seahawks - who shot 28 percent from the floor - were unable to come back.
