NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Phillies never seriously considered a reunion with Shane Victorino. Now, their former centerfielder is a Boston Red Sox rightfielder for the princely sum of $39 million over three years.

Victorino signed the deal Tuesday, making him the latest outfielder to fly off the free-agent market. His contract tells you plenty about the current climate: Victorino endured a career-worst 2012 and will still make $13 million per season.

Victorino's numbers over the last three years compared almost identically to Angel Pagan, who signed a four-year, $40 million deal with San Francisco. The Phillies were interested in Pagan.

Michael Bourn is the lone true centerfielder remaining on the market and the Phillies are not yet willing to meet the demands of his agent, Scott Boras. Bourn was said to be seeking a deal larger than B.J. Upton's five-year, $75.5 million contract.

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said Tuesday he does not need a centerfielder in place to explore other needs. At this point, the Phillies are living on the periphery of the winter meetings and content with that.
