Birons have daughter

It's a girl for the Birons

After the big shutout comes the really big news for Flyers goaltender Martin Biron - the birth of his third child this morning.

Anne Marie Biron gave birth to the couple's third child this morning at 7:54. The baby girl, whose name has not yet been announced, weighed in at 6 pounds, 10 ounces and is 20 inches long, the Flyers said.

It is the Birons' third child, joining son Jacob and daughter Grace.

Biron said Sunday that the birth of their first child was by an emergency C-section. Because of that, the birth of their second child was by a scheduled C-section, as this one will be. The only real concession that the Birons made to hockey was to move the date from next Friday to today after the first-round playoff schedule was released.

"We wanted to give us a few days at home, where I had some games at home . . . to be able to help her out a little bit," said Biron, adding that parents and others from both sides of the family were coming in to help out.

Biron made 24 saves in the Flyers' 2-0 win over Washington in Game 2 on Sunday. Game 3 is Tuesday night at the Wachovia Center.
