DeSean on his benching: Never saw Reid do that before

POSTED: Tuesday, November 15, 2011, 8:32 PM

Is Michael Vick a better quarterback than Eli Manning?
Yes. Vick is just in a slump and will rebound.
No. Manning has a ring, and his team is in first place.

DeSean Jackson said during an interview with NFL Network's Michael Irvin that he couldn't recall Andy Reid ever benching a player for missing a meeting as the Eagles coach did last week when the receiver was late for special teams meeting on Saturday.

Jackson was inactive and watched Sunday's loss to the Cardinals from home.

Here is an excerpt of Jackson's interview, aired Tuesday night. The full Q&A will be shown on NFL GameDay Sunday morning at 9 a.m.

Irvin: “You missed the 8:30 special teams meeting. You got there 20 minutes, or thereabouts, late.”

Jackson: “8:53, made it to the 9:00 meeting. Like I said, as a man, I was late.”

Irvin: “There is speculation and things have been reported that the decision not to play you was because of other things that have been happening. What are your thoughts on that?”

Jackson: “I don’t think so. Being late to a meeting is unacceptable, of course. I understand that, but I’ve never been a problem, never been a distraction. I just come to work and do my thing.”

Irvin: “You wanted to play?”

Jackson: “Of course. I want to play every game.”

Irvin: “You missed the special teams meeting, but you got there for a team meeting. You were 20 minutes late, 25 minutes late [to the special teams meeting]. Is this protocol to not let the guy play at all?”

Jackson: “Honestly, I’ve never seen coach [Andy] Reid do anything like that. I’ve never seen him bench anybody for missing a meeting.”

This has been an extremely disappointing season, and bringing a guy on national TV to talk about his punishment for missing a meeting is going to make things even worse. Here's an idea. Bring Reid on NFL network and ask him why the heck he made his offensive line coach the defensive coordinator!

The Little Runt must go along with Big Red. Jeffrey: Aren't you doing focus groups? The natives are angry. It will hurt merchandise sales, advertising revenues, etc. etc. Don't you care? Ask Andy why a rookie was on Fitzgerald. Also ask him why McCoy didn't run more. You are the owner. You have to demand answers or are you a WIMPY BOY?

desean should worry about himself and not concern himself with other players.

Agree with all the previous posts... especially king: "... have Andy explain why he made the O line coach the defensive coordinator." LOL! Emperor Reid has no clothes!!

for all the money they gave young, nnamdi, babin, they could have given him a new contract. He has done more for this team than any of those guys. They are going to low ball mccoy as well. They didnt want to pay westbrook, trotter, dawkins, or owens

Michael Irvin, the same guy who consorts with prostitutes while high on cocaine, is all the sudden the voice of rationality and reason? Got it.

Michael Irvin hates Philadelphia, the Eagles and the fans. Who cares what he says. He was probably high during the interview.

    1. The Eagles are trying to cheapen Djack's value by demonstrating a bad teammate. He did deserve to not start, but play in the second half based on his selfish backpedaling fumble before the half against the Bears Monday night, it cost us the game. DeSean giveth, and he taketh away too. Andy mishandled this badly. 2. DeSean knew the Eagles were looking for a reason, and he missed the meeting anyway. I wish I were making a mere 600 thousand dollars this year, in this economy. Boo hoo.

Andy figured he could beat the Cardinals without Jackson so he dicided to play bad cop for a change. Another brilliant Andy Reid gamble gone bad! To quote Herman Edwards..."you play to win the game!". Eagles needed to win on Sunday and every week...and Reid blows it again. Hire Herman Edwards or Jon Gruden!!!

The decision not to pay Djax is a problem... His absence showed just what his presence means to Maclin and the other receivers...Last thing we need with this team more distractions from a veteran...Djax still needs to be paid he has earned a better salary than what the Eagles are paying... This game against the Giants will set the tone for the remainder of the season... Hope this team doesn't quit can't get used to an Andy Reid team losing like it has guess I forgot how much losing sucks...

Face it the Eagles front office will never deal with a Rosenhood client. I don't blame them.

That DeSean is now crying about being punished is reason enough to bench him this week...besides he has been working about half this year anyway. It was not just the missed meeting...if truth be told DeSean is loafing this year instead of defenses playing him better....he is afraid to go full tilt because he does not have a new contract. Is TO his buddy and consort?

I think the Eagles can keep Andy Reid if they can bring back Tom Modrak. The eagles were getting better every year under Reid/Modrak during Reid's first few years with the Eagles.

Who cares. Bench him, don't bench him. Not to worry, we'll beat Altanta next outing, and all is well again in "Iggledom" Back to the same old, same old. Come on Laurie, do something positive. Clean house.
