Vick: "I got hit late"

POSTED: Sunday, September 25, 2011, 5:21 PM

Who should start at quarterback for the Eagles next week against the 49ers?
Mike Kafka
Michael Vick
Vince Young

Michael Vick said that he isn't receiving the calls other quarterbacks in the NFL receive when they get hit. The quarterback broke his right non-throwing hand today in the Eagles' 29-16 loss to the New York Giants.

Vick stayed in the game briefly, left for an X-ray and then returned. A first X-ray was negative, the Eagles said, and Vick went back into the game. However, after a second X-ray showed a hairline fracture, Vick was pulled. He's availability for next week is in question.

It was the second straight week that Vick did not complete a game he started. Last week against the Falcons he suffered a concussion.

Today's injury occurred late in the third quarter after Vick completed a 23-yard pass to receiver Jeremy Maclin. He was hit by Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty on the throw.

"After such a great play I felt like I got hit late," Vick said. "There's no flag. Broke my hand. That's it."

Vick was asked how exactly he broke his hand.

"It really don't matter where it was at," Vick said. "I was trying to protect myself. Still didn't get a flag. That's pretty much the story for the last three weeks. Obviously, at some point something catastrophic is going to happen and I broke my hand.

"Not to blame the refs or say it was their fault. It's just one of those unfortunate situations. I just think more precaution should be taken when I'm inside the pocket. If you look at all the replays I'm on the ground every time. It's unfortunate for myself, it's unfortunate for my team and I'll be lying if I said I wasn't frustrated right now because of that."

Asked if he thought he wasn't getting calls that other quarterbacks get Vick said, "Absolutely."

Why?

"You all see it. There's no reason for me to go into a big disseration about why I'm not getting the calls," Vick said. "The refs -- they got to do their jobs, as well. I even mentioned it in training camp to the refs when we had our little meeting."

Vick was asked if he thought he could play next week when the Eagles host the 49ers.

"I don't know," he said. "I don't know if I'm going to be able to play next week. I don't know anything right now except my hand is broken and we got to figure out what's the next move."

I saw Vick get a helmet hit and nothing was called. However, the blame for this debacle ias Andy Reid's. His playcalling is so bad that its difficult to understand how a career football man could make such calls. Actually, the incompetent award should go to the whole Eagles organization. Their top 3 draft picks are not contributing at all. They totally do not understand the importance of linebacker and safety. Instead of getting NNamdi, they needed to get a good and experienced linebacker and safety. Finally, to give $100,000,000 to a small, over 30, and injury prone quarterback is just insane. It's time to clean house.

Vick is in a no win situation. He can't say or do anything w/o his past being brought up even though it has nothing to do with what is happening RIGHT NOW! AND WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW IS THE EAGLES DEFENSE SUCKS!

I see all the hater clowns have crawled out from under their rocks. Showing true cluelessness and the usual fundamental lack of empirical football understanding. P.S. Reid must go!!!!

No Ids: You are in a state of denial. Previous poster had it right when he said that signing a fragile, over 30 y.o. Vick, who has never been more than half a quarterback, was a mistake. Reid is at fault for believing Vick could earn his contract behind a bad OL. We should have traded Vick for OL players and picks, kept Kolb, and hired an accomplished defensive coordinator.

yes, vick is a changed man...right...i cant decide who is more annoying this morning..those stupid anti-american hikers whining about being held in Iran, and Michael Vick whining about getting hit in a football game...product of a society where nobody has to take personal responsbility for anything anymore.
by the way, kevin kolb looked pretty bad yesterday as well..one lucky TD where he threw it up to Fitzgerald, and a bad game ending pick.
