Lehigh Valley IronPigs – Triple A

The IronPigs edged the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 3-2, to earn a series split at PNC Field in Moosic, Pa.

The offense jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning and added a run in the fourth for the victory.

Center fielder Leandro Castro (2-for-3 with a double and a run scored), third baseman Russ Canzler (2-for-5 with a double, a run scored, an RBI and two strikeouts) and first baseman Jim Murphy (3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored, an RBI and a strikeout) had multi-hit games.

Left-handed starter Greg Smith (7-5, 3.99 ERA) held on to the lead and earned the win. He was charged with two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six over 5 1/3 innings.

Righty Luis Garcia (0.35 ERA) nailed down his 15th save of the season after pitching a perfect ninth.

The IronPigs (41-44) will now host the Syracuse Chiefs for a two-game series. Righty Jason Marquis (0-0, 1.50 ERA) is slated to make his second start with Lehigh Valley in the opener on Wednesday.

Reading Fightin Phils – Double A

The Fightin Phils fell to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 6-2, at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pa.

The team has lost 13 of their last 14 games.

Left-handed starter Hoby Milner (5-4, 4.07 ERA) served up three home runs and took the loss. Milner allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk in six innings.

The offense was held to six hits, including two from shortstop KC Serna (2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, an RBI and a strikeout).

Newly-acquired catcher Raywilly Gomez went 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI in his Reading debut. He also committed an error.

The Fightin Phils (34-46) will turn to righty Perci Garner (4-5, 4.66 ERA) when the series continues Wednesday.

Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced

The Threshers lost a pitchers' duel to the Dunedin Blue Jays, 1-0, at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.

Right-handed starter Aaron Nola had an impressive outing in his second professional start. Nola pitched four shutout innings, giving up only a hit and striking out three.

The Threshers couldn't get anything going on offense as the team could only manage to put one baserunner in scoring position in the loss. The team did not draw a walk and could only muster six hits, all singles.

Third baseman Harold Martinez went 2-for-3.

The teams travel to Dunedin to play another game on Wednesday as the Threshers (4-8 in second half, 21-59 overall) hand the ball to righty Colin Kleven (2-7, 5.09 ERA).

Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A

The BlueClaws edged the Hagerstown Suns, 2-1, at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood Township, N.J.

Right-handed starter Yacksel Rios (2-0, 3.18 ERA) plunked the first batter he faced and saw him come around the score on a double steal, but delivered eight stellar innings for the victory. Rios held the Suns to a run on one hit, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out four.

Tied at one apiece in the sixth, right fielder Dylan Cozens hit a solo home run that proved to be the game-winner. It was Cozens' 10th homer of the season. He finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base, his 13th steal.

Righty Matt Hockenberry pitched a scoreless ninth to notch his first save.

The BlueClaws (4-9 in second half, 31-51 overall) will look to extend a winning streak to four games as righty Ranfi Casimiro (2-6, 4.97 ERA) takes his turn in the rotation when the series continues Wednesday.

Williamsport Crosscutters – Class A-Short Season

The Crosscutters doubled up the Jamestown Jammers, 6-3, at Russell E. Diethrick Jr. Park in Jamestown, N.Y.

The top two hitters in the lineup were menaces to the Jamestown pitching staff in the win: right fielder Cord Sandberg (1-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI) and left fielder Jiandido Tromp (2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, a stolen base. a sacrifice and a strikeout).

Right-handed starter Preston Packrall couldn't capitalize on the offense and did not factor in the decision. He allowed three runs on nine hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings.

Three relievers combined for 4 1/3 shutout innings to secure the victory.

The Crosscutters (8-9) will send righty David Whitehead (1-1, 1.93 ERA) to the mound when the series continues Wednesday.
