Lehigh Valley IronPigs – Triple A
The IronPigs were held to three hits and blanked by the Toledo Mud Hens, 4-0, at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pa.
Left-handed starter Greg Smith (4-2, 3.74 ERA) was stuck with the loss, allowing three runs on six hits, including a long ball, over seven innings.
Right fielder Leandro Castro (1-for-4) and designated hitter Steve Susdorf (2-for-4) provided the IronPigs' three hits.
First baseman Jim Murphy wore the golden sombrero, going 0-for-4 with four strikeouts.
Righty Ethan Martin pitched a perfect inning, striking out two.
The IronPigs dropped to 25-24 on the season. Next up for Lehigh Valley is a five-game, four-day series with the Norfolk Tides, beginning Monday. Righty Barry Enright (2-2, 3.93 ERA) is slated to start the opener.
Reading Fightin Phils – Double A
The Fightin Phils shut out the Akron RubberDucks, 3-0, at Canal Park in Akron, Ohio.
The offense managed 11 hits, but only one for extra bases, in the win.
Second baseman Albert Cartwright (2-for-5 with a strikeout), center fielder Aaron Altherr (2-for-4 with two strikeouts) and shortstop Edgar Duran (2-for-4 with a run scored) had multi-hit games.
Right fielder Cam Perkins (1-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, an RBI and a strikeout) and left fielder Everett Williams (1-for-3 with a double and two RBI) knocked in runs for Reading.
Left-handed starter Ryan Demmin (1-0, 2.38 ERA) threw five shutout innings of three-hit ball to pick up the win. He struck out seven.
Righty Nefi Ogando (4.09 ERA) allowed two hits and struck out two in the ninth to pick up his sixth save.
The win lifted the Fightin Phils to 28-19 and extended a winning streak to three games. Reading will look for a sweep when the series wraps up Monday. Righty Mike Nesseth (1-3, 8.03 ERA) will be called upon in the finale.
Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced
The Threshers split a doubleheader with the Daytona Cubs at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Fla.
In the first game, the Threshers avoided a shutout with a run in the final inning to lose, 4-1.
First baseman Art Charles crushed a solo home run. He also doubled to finish 2-for-3 in the loss.
Right-handed starter Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez (0-2, 6.75 ERA) suffered the loss. He was charged with two runs on four hits and two walks in two innings of work.
The Threshers salvaged a split with a 5-2 victory in the second game. The win also snapped a 10-game losing streak.
Third baseman KC Serna and center fielder Peter Lavin powered the offense with home runs. Serna (1-for-4) hit a two-run shot and Lavin (2-for-4) added a solo jack in the win.
Left-handed starter Adam Loewen (1-0, 3.00 ERA) picked up the win. He gave up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five in six innings.
Jordan Guth (1.33 ERA) struck out two and retired the side in order to notch his third save of the season.
The Threshers finally reached double digits in victory, but still possess the Florida League's worst record at 10-39. Clearwater has an off day on Monday.
Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A
The BlueClaws collapsed late in a 7-1 defeat at the hands of the West Virginia Power at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston, W.Va.
Center fielder Jiandido Tromp led off the game with a home run, but the BlueClaws wouldn't score again. It was Tromp's first blast of the season.
Right-handed starter Ranfi Casimiro was charged with an unearned run on three hits and two walks in five innings.
Righty Delvi Francisco (1-1, 7.36 ERA) was rung up for five runs on a hit, two walks and two hit batsman to suffer the loss.
The BlueClaws fell to 19-28. Lakewood will travel for a three-game set with the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Righty Tyler Viza (2-4, 3.80 ERA) takes his turn in the rotation in the opener.
