Phillies give more time to Bobby Abreu
The Phillies originally were set to tell Bobby Abreu by Wednesday whether he would be on their 25-man roster or grant him his release.
TAMPA, Fla. - The Phillies originally were set to tell Bobby Abreu by Wednesday whether he would be on their 25-man roster or grant him his release.
Because Abreu missed the two previous games with a shoulder injury, the sides agreed to move the deadline back to Sunday.
"I think that is important for him to get that extension and take some more looks at him," manager Ryne Sandberg said.
Abreu said before the game that his shoulder was feeling fine. He was the Phillies' designated hitter Tuesday against the Yankees.
