Style:
This friendly family-run cafe brings a sambal-spiced authentic taste of Sumatra to South Philly's long-standing Indonesian neighborhood. From the house-made noodle soups to the excellent pork platter, killer satay, and stir-fried rice, Sky delivers bold Medan-style flavors at incredibly affordable prices in a simple but pleasant room that should appeal to adventure eaters and novices alike.
Specialties:
Sky salad; soto Medan soup; chicken and beef satay; nasi campur Medan (pork platter); homemade "mie" egg noodle soup (with pork or crab); mie belacan (noodles with shrimp paste); nasi goreng fried rice (special, or with salted mackerel and chicken); nasi lemak special (with stewed beef rendang); spicy chicken rice platter.
Alcohol:
Nothing quenches Southeast Asian heat like a cold beer - a crisp pilsner is ideal, but a nice Belgian-style wit beer would also work well.
Weekend noise:
A very mellow 76 decibels, if you don't mind the retro-pop soundtrack. (Ideal is 75 decibels or less.)
