The first local offshoot of Harrisburg-based brewpub Appalachian Brewing Co. starts service Thursday, May 12 in Collegeville. Details here.
Speaking of brews: The fourth Philly Beer Week is gearing up for June 3. Details here.
On a charitable note: Tonight (5/12) at 6, Dan Stern at MidAtlantic (3711 Market St.) is hosting a crab boil with proceeds benefiting Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer. They'll tap the year’s first keg of Stoudt's Ex Gratia, a Meyer lemon-infused Kölsch brewed annually for the Great Chef’s Event. Three-course meal, served outside, will include a "junk" salad (iceberg, house-cured salami, cheddar, pickled pepper, grape tomato), a crab boil of hardshells, new potato, pork sausage, greens, fennel, ex gratia, meyer lemon and ramp aioli, and lemonade bars. Food is $30, beer is $10 a pint.
Revolution House, the spiffy pub from Luca Sena and John Poulos on the former site of the Snow White Diner at Second and Market Streets in Old City, is awaiting LCB approval. They're shooting for a June 1 opening, but don't seem too anxious about getting open.
Something bitter: Not only did the original location of Naked Chocolate Cafe close at 1317 Walnut St., but so did the branch of Artisserie at 31 S. 18th St. (once a Naked Chocolate location). The UCity Artisserie at 3421 Walnut St. remains. Naked's Tom Block has promised to relocate in Center City.
Tony Kanjanakorn wants to dispel a nasty little rumor going around Horsham -- that Kinnaree, his French-Thai BYOB, has closed. It hasn't.
Marino's of Mullica Hill (details here) opens Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m. The opening festivities will include free slices of Marino’s seasonal bianco asparagus pizza all day long. (Here's video of owner Anthony Marino harvesting asparagus.)
