As a 30 year plus Sansom Street Oyster House customer, I awaited its reopening with much anticipation to again get some of that good Philly style seafood on which I grew up. When I heard the Oyster House was again open for lunch, my colleague and I hurried over there. After, getting over the shock of stepping from one time zone to another with the new decor (which grows on you), I looked over the menu searching for my old seafood favorites. They were nary there. Our friendly waitress, Lorraine, a familier and welcome face served us admirably. At her suggestion, I ordered the fried "belly" clam sandwich. A favorite treat probably best to get only in the Boston area. My sandwich came out with clams hardly worth killing, let alone making into a sandwich. They were over-fried with pieces of shell still attached. Accompanied with "homemade" potato chips which could have been used to cut diamonds. All and all, I was very disappointed as was my colleague. This week we gave it another tried and were equalled disappointed. To add insult to injury, the place charges New York prices to match the "new" New York decor. Sam, you better re-think this strategy and get back to the Mink tradition of serving seafood standards at affordable prices.
