In fun-house digs, Jose Garces serves a seriously good menu, inspired again by Mexico.
Craig LaBan: There are two characters cagily circling the plates of spice and wonder at Distrito, West Philly's hot new taco and tequila palace. But the focuses here are dangerously good fresh lime margaritas, more than 70 high-end tequilas (try Espalon, Chinaco or Siembra Azul), and a respectable craft beer list with locals (RyePa), chile beers (Rogue Chipotle), and Mexican brews zipped-up "Michelada" style with spicy sangrita.

Felt insulted :(
Food and drinks were very expensive. Margaritas are really good and the decor is good too. We booked the car booth a day in advance, but we were made to wait for one hour past our reservation time (10 pm) and in the end were ushered to a common table, leave alone any booth. This was insulting because my husband and I had taken a couple of friends with us for dinner. Our office colleagues had warned us about this reservation negligence Distrito does, but we went anyways. The food was also not great enough to compensate for this disappointment! The management also did not care to compensate for this, leave alone apologizing... If you wish to enjoy better food (non-Tapas style), and better ambiance and service, I would recommend El-Vez. They are atleast never disappointing.
