At these prices this showy steak house should be nearly perfect. But with mediocre cooking and oily service, it's far from it.
At these prices this showy steak house should be nearly perfect. But with mediocre cooking and oily service, it's far from it.

One of the showiest new restaurant settings in a while can't mask the steakhouse's unsavory flaws: a triple combo of mediocre cooking, irritating service, and offensive markups on an otherwise spectacular new cellar. » Read more
Cuisine type: Steak House
Meals Served:   Lunch - Mon. thru Fri.   Dinner - Mon. thru Sun.
Style: The jaw-dropping columned space in a former bank feautures a towering glass wine cellar, a frisky bar scene for the corporate set, and prime meat chops at prices that will make your jaw drop, too.
Specialties: Shanghai-style calamari; tuna tartare; porterhouse; filet mignon; ribeye; bone-in tomahawk chop; tuna steak; onion rings; maque choux corn; potatoes gratin; lobster mac and cheese; butterscotch cheesecake; bread pudding with Jack Daniel's sauce.
Alcohol: A major new cellar with over 1,000 selections covering all bases but focused on steakhouse reds, including rare verticals of luxe cult Californians (Cain; Dalla Valle; Araujo; Harlan; Screaming Eagle). The triple-mark-ups, though, are hard to swallow, leaving few truly worthy "value" choices below $75 without better help from the sommeliers, who proved inconsistent. Good bets for an affordable steak red: Clos Julien Reserve ($48), Joel Gott zin ($58), Casa Lapostolle "Cuvee Alexandre" cab ($60), Novy Sonoma syrah ($59), 3 Rings shiraz ($65).
Hours: Lunch Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Dinner Monday through Saturday, 5-11 p.m.; Sunday, 5-10 p.m. Bar menu Monday through Saturday, until midnight.

question
Does this mean no bells, you'll put the bells later or you will change them later?

Added the bell
Sorry - Craig rated this restaurant one bell in the paper, but that rating did not come through to the site. We've since corrected this online review to reflect his one bell. Philly.com apologizes for the confusion!

Del Friscos is Great!
I do not make it a practice to comment on reviews, but was so disappointed by Craig's unprofessional feedback. Commenting on the "oily" waiter, the service, and trashing the guests....all reflect emotion comments that are exemplary of Craig's distaste for his own life. He mentions the tensions of the economy, but does not give a thought to the employees whose only intention is to deliver the highest level of service to the few customers he may get in a night. Craig then mentions the 100s of diners, for which many are repeat customers, not realizing that he contradicts his own column. I am sure, if Craig was not happy with a certain element of his meal, DelFriscos would have been happy to make him a "happy" customer. As a representative of the many businesses of Philadelphia, we are all here doing the best we can. Perhaps the next time, Craig, you decide to review a restaurant, you should take your Midol first.

Value
I agree with Craig- I was there 2xs and felt that there was a major lack of hospitality. We were on time.... our reservation was not available for 30 minutes. No apalogy at all. It was more about "isnt this place beautiful" "arent we great" - The service was arrogant as well. If you arent going to spend an obscene amount of money you become an afterthought- Every customer should have a wonderful experience regardless of how much they spend- The world is a different place than it was a year ago--There needs to be a higher value attached when someone chooses to spend big bucks on a night out- hospitality and the food add that value- Neither was evident during my experiences.

Laban got it right
The place is stunningly beautiful but the service is mediocre at best- I dont know anyone who has visited and been seated on time- the mark-up on the wine list is asinine, even by high-end steakhouse standards and the kitchen seems overwhelmed during every dinner service Ive been there. The food and service need to improve or the only repeat customers @ DF's will be all the old lawyers you see throwing their money around on their call girls.

CJ-Pres/CEO Review
Mr. CJ Prs/CEO- As a piece of advice- posting such remarks in a blog do the restaurant or your business no justice at all, espeically when posted in such an unprofessional manner as you have. It is fitting you represent the Del Frisco's brand. Keep you the good work for your client!

A Happy Hour Visit
I agree with Craig that the calamari was really good. Mine was not over breaded, and the wonderful bartender Greg recommended getting it lightly sauced. $6.75 for a Heineken is ridiculous! It was fun watching the reactions of people when they see the "go-go waitresses". I think it is a great bar scene.

Worst Steakhouse in Philly.
Been here twice and couldn't agree with Craig more. I won't ever go back. Barclay Prime or Capital Grill for me. Maybe Butcher/Singer (though I don't care for the decor there).

Let's Clarify a Few Things
I do agree with some of the comments about the service and some of the remarks about the food. The oysters were on top of way too much ice, good point. However, I enjoyed the crab gnocchi and thought it was a decent side dish (not as good as the calamari (The Palm does this the best), but better than most fine steakhouse sides.) The comment about the other guests was not needed unless you are implying that there is a need to enforce a dress code. The prices for wine may be over the top, but they are like this at almost all prime beef steak houses. This is another point we need to address, prime steak is not cheap, anywhere from $10-$20 per pound. I enjoyed a 25 oz. ny strip for $80; that is rather expensive but it was amazing and I was quite happy with the doneness as well as the flavor. I think true steak lovers never get filet, it just does not have as much delicious marbling as the fattier chops. Also, who goes to Del Friscos and orders fish as an entree? This is a steakhouse, so order steak. I would have to say that 2 bells would have been more apprporiate, Kanella got 3?

Where do these people come from?
I'm sorry, but taking a limosine to any restaurant that is cornered by a Wendy's, a vacant lot, and a Staples is ridiculous. Yes, the place is architecturally impressive, but please! The food is barely edible. The burger comes with "homemade" bbq chips that make Doritos look light and healthy. SOME of the servers and a few bartenders are great and they seem to be trying to make up for the over-inflated prices of the food. The patrons fall into these categories: (1) Suits with nothing to say but say it anyway, with volume; (2) Cheesy young girls still drinking Cosmos that cannot afford to be there; (3) Out-of-towners in khakis and golf shirts that were probably referred there by their hotel concierge who's getting a kick back.
