Cuisine type: French
Meals Served:
Dinner - Mon. thru Sun.
Style:
This Queen Village French bistro has a neighborhood charm and hand-crafted warmth, from the cheery red velvet banquettes and quirky Burgundian knick-knack decor to the homemade bread. Chef-owner Peter Woolsey (ex-Striped Bass, Lucas Carton) indulges some intriguingly authentic bistro classics, many tasty, but inconsistent execution, especially with entrees, holds the kitchen back from its full potential.
Specialties:
Flammenkuche; salmon tartare; soupe à l'ail; scallops with orange-braised endives; grilled sardines; endive-walnut-Roquefort salad; oeuf en meurette; trout meunière; mustard-braised rabbit with tagliatelle; duck a l'orange; chocolate pot de crème; beignets.
Alcohol:
A small but well-chosen French list with solid bistro choices around $50 or less choices (Muscadet; Viré-Clessé; Chitry; Cahors), a versatile Provencale rosé ($36) and a pitcher wine with drinkability (especially the red) for $18. A full-compliment of French aperitifs, brandies and sweet wines. Try the port-like Banyuls with chocolate or cheese.
Weekend noise:
A nice bistro bustle, at 84 decibels, but not unspeakably loud. (Ideal is 75 decibels or less.)
Hours: Monday through Saturday 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. ; Sunday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
