Craig LaBan: There is a lot to like about "Alison two," the ambitious sequel and sister restaurant to Alison Barshak's first suburban hit, Alison at Blue Bell.
It's a classy rehab of an old Mexican cantina beside the Fort Washington SEPTA station, an upscale dining option for a neighborhood that has too few. The bar features fantastic potato chips, superb classic cocktails, 20 wines by the glass, and a serious beer list. The cooking, though, is inconsistent and lacking in finesse. » Read more

An outstanding bar with homemade mixers, top-notch spirits, and well-made classic cocktails. There is also one of the suburbs' best craft-beer lists to go along with nearly 20 well-chosen wines by the glass poured from a high-tech preservation system. Glass favorites included a white Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Ridge Three Valleys red zin, and draft pours from Russian River, Brasserie Dupont and Yards Brawler Ale. Try the "Green Demon" with absinthe.

Since AlisonTwo opened late last fall, I and/or my family have eaten there every week. The dishes we ate were well-prepared, balanced in flavor, and attractively plated. We especially enjoyed the ethereal corn soup, mushrooms with heirloom grits and shaved aged jack, roasted chicken with grits, onion and bacon fries, tuna sliders, homemade potato chips, salad with poached egg, amazing mussels - I could go on and on. I cannot believe the poor review by LeBan. Perhaps there is another reason for his attack?
