The French bistro's comeback has reached the Main Line. This spot's not especially exciting, but does well by some classics.
This comeback was a long time coming for the French bistro, which had been knocked off its frites around here for years by that bout of post-9/11 anti-France silliness. » Read more
Cuisine type: French
Meals Served:   Brunch  Lunch   Dinner
Style: The Main Line gets a taste of the French bistro resurgence with this lively storefront cafe in downtown Ardmore, where a menu of Gallic classics, from spot-on onion soup to hearty cassoulet, is served in a bustling room decked with antique copper cookware and rustic bric-à-brac. Some of the dishes could use some extra refinement (as can the service), but there's already a joie de vivre to this pleasant newcomer that feels like the beginnings of a neighborhood keeper.
Specialties: Onion soup; moules frites; escargots; onion and goat cheese tart; roasted vegetable-goat cheese napoleon; salmon with champagne-leek sauce; cassoulet (Wednesday); steak frites; duck with celery root puree and cherry-port sauce; short rib bourgignon; seared trout special; chocolate pot de crème; tarte au citron.
Alcohol: BYOB. Stick with something French and rustic to pair with the classic bistro flavors.
Weekend noise: All the hard-surfaces add up to a noisy 91-decibel din. (Ideal is 75 decibels or less.)
Hours: Lunch Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Dinner Tuesday through Thursday, 5-9:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 5-11 p.m. Sunday brunch, 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Reservations: Recommended
Prices: $25 and up

You Are Crazy
I am shocked that you can giv ethis restaurant Two Bells. The second week they were open my wife and I went for dinner. Made a reservation and they sat us right at the front door which should have been more of a waiting area. The service was horrible and our server couldn't even open our bottle of wine. The short ribs were 86

Con't
The short ribs were 86'd which was unexceptable for a new restaurant trying to build a client base. Also for a BYO, I think it is overpriced. One Bell at best.

Crazy people go to restaurants when they first open.
You Are Crazy said "The second week they were open my wife and I went for dinner." Only an idiot rushes to go to a restaurant in the first couple of weeks and expects things to be perfect. Never judge a restaurant within the first several weeks they are open. I usually don't even try out a restaurant unless it's been open at least three months. There's too much going on when a restaurant first opens to make a sound judgement about the food, service or ambiance.

Not Good
It took forever to be greeted by a hostess and just as long to be seated and the place was empty!! The waiter was ok but the food was terrible!! The pate was old and disgusting and the escargot were hard and rubbery. I had fish that was smelly and old. Had no flavor. My friend had Lamb and it was tought and very difficult to eat. Overall the food quality has went way down in the last 6 months. Wouldn't waste my time.
