Andy Reid's legacy: Raised expectations for Eagles

True. I had to tell my 17 and 16 year-olds about the "bad old days" being an Eagles fan in the 80s and 90s. The past two years were a snapshot of that. Philly loves an over-achiever, and we cannot stomach highly paid free agents (and coaches) that do not live up to expectations. Reid over-achieved for the first 6 seasons of his tenior, and sporatically after that, but then he never lived up to the expectations he raised in us.
As for the new coach, I am suprised that Steve Spagnuolo is not getting more play. Spag started with the Eagles in 1999 and was a Jim Johnson guy. He would know how to make our defensive one to be feared again and would be a good fit in Philly.

Agreed mofo. It ain't over 'til it's over, but even if they make the playoffs, can this easily fooled defense and make-shift offensive line beat a playoff caliber team?

And that is also why we love Victorino and Lee.

Agree with both of you Gents. It is a good time to be a Philadelphian and a Phillies fan. If we could have landed Johnson in '93 we might be comparing this team to that one. Now, this team is better, hands down.

We love Kruk because he is one of us. To be a Philadelphian means you have to kill me to beat me. If you leave one gasp of air in my lungs I will come back and destroy you. Kruk gets that, and we get that he gets that.

I can't decide what I enjoy more, an Eagles win or a Cowboys loss.

Yes, but how did the season end? The Phils lost to a team that did not have as good pitching, but could manage a key hit when needed. Phils bats fell asleep against the Giants, and I think most fans see the same thing coming again this year. Right now the Phils don't have an answer to good left-handed pitching.

I get it Gonzo, but the thing is, the Phillies are just not that fun to watch if you are a fan of hitting. I suppose the fans that like to watch good pitching are enjoying themselves, but it does not make for real exciting baseball (to me).

I doubt very highly that baseball is really number 4. You don't get that good for so long without caring about what you do. I think Oz was just making a point there that baseball is not #1, and I have no problem with that. He is obviously a good dude, and we are lucky to have him on our team.

It would be interesting if one of you guys that does this for a living would look up the stats on the Phils hitting before and after the "sign stealing" issue last year. Seems to me they were hitting a lot better before that, and haven't hit the same since.

Bob Ford: Resting Eagles starters was a bad move

I disagree with your premis Bob. Resting the starters was a good call. Unfortunately, though, I don't think it will matter with this defensive unit. They play with heart but they ain't so smart (with or without Bradley). When they traded away Dawk they traded away their heart, soul, and brains. Sometimes it is better to hold on to that older/wiser guy that is slowing down a bit to keep the character of your team together. The only guy I would keep on that defense is Trent Cole.

Can this defense succeed against a good quarterback? With the linebacker injuries and the secondary biting at every double move and pump-fake, I don't think so. Cutler hits one of those three wide-open recievers and it is a much different game.

You can't compare the Mets lineup to this Yankees lineup. I think you err to the early side today (6 or max 7 innings) and let the pen finish it out. Myers, Park, Happ, Lidge can get it done better than a tired Pedro against this lineup. It won't matter anyway if our lineup doesn't get it done.

Hey LeftField, You from the mid-west? It's funny because had the Phils lost to the Dodgers we'd all be over it by now and talking about the spanking that the Birds put on the Giants. But, since the Phils made it to the WS again we're all bumbed out because they are behind. Bottom line is, we've got some good teams here and I'm having a ball. So, while not very "Philly" of you, LeftField has a good perspective. Oh, and if the Eagles lose to Dallas, they suck.
