Blog Post: As Contreras struggles at Clearwater, Qualls poised to fill in - 1 out of 18 total comment(s)
- Fri., 04/06/12 - 22:47 PMPure speculation, but I think Qualls got derailed several years ago by a season-ending fluke injury. I seem to recall he took a line drive off the ankle or knee or something in a September game. I don't think he's been the same before this season, so maybe that has something to do with his recent ineffectiveness.
Blog Post: Rollins wants 5 years - 1 out of 114 total comment(s)
- Tue., 10/11/11 - 15:51 PMInstead of entertaining Rollins or Oswalt, I'd rather spend the money on Jose Reyes. He fills a need at SS and provides the leadoff hitter skills (OBP & SB) the Phillies' lineup proved they desperately need.

Blog Post: Wal-Mart weighs 'hundreds' of new inner-city stores: report - 1 out of 2 total comment(s)
- Mon., 12/13/10 - 15:49 PMNot that Springfield (DelCo) is an inner-city exactly, but what ever happened to their plans to develop in the failing Marple Crossroads shopping center?
Blog Post: Game 100 open thread: Skeleton Lineup - 1 out of 12 total comment(s)
- Wed., 07/28/10 - 00:22 AMIt never made sense to trade Werth, unless there is something behind the scenes to force their hand. He has a .380 OBP and his departure creates a huge right-handed hole in the lineup. With Victorino sidelined, put him on the DL as a precaution, give Domonic Brown a tryout in RF and - if he does well - explore trading Ibanez to Detroit or the ChiSox during the August waivers for a PTBNL.
Blog Post: Phillies fire hitting coach - 1 out of 129 total comment(s)
- Thu., 07/22/10 - 22:36 PMHopefully, Thompson can remain with the organization in some capacity. He can't swing the bats for them.
Blog Post: Game 94 discussion thread: The Vance Worley Era Begins - 1 out of 37 total comment(s)
- Thu., 07/22/10 - 06:41 AMEveryone is excited about trading for Oswalt or another starting pitcher, but if you have to remove Werth (our most productive outfielder) from the offense... how much better does that really make the team?
Blog Post: Tolls for I-95, 422, Schuylkill Expressway? - 2 out of 22 total comment(s)
- Tue., 05/04/10 - 09:33 AMYou think the Schuylkill is slow now? Wait until they try expanding above it.
- Tue., 05/04/10 - 08:34 AMAs a guideline, I typically avoid anything supported by Frank Luntz research.
Blog Post: Eagles Draft Done; 13 Picks, 9 for D - 1 out of 83 total comment(s)
- Sat., 04/24/10 - 18:59 PMI liked the 1st round selection of DE Graham even though I thought they would have taken S Thomas. Allen should be a very good safety, but I wish they would have added another above average CB or OL from that #59 spot rather than trading down over and over again. I know they needed more picks, but what's with all the DL when you needed DBs that can cover and tackle?
Blog Post: SportsNet replaces Dei Lynam as Sixers sideline reporter - 1 out of 25 total comment(s)
- Mon., 10/26/09 - 19:18 PMI'll take a smart woman who knows her sports over a traditionally-prettier woman who can't read the prompter any day. Dei Lynam knows Philly basketball better than any other woman they could bring in.
Blog Post: Roster FAQs: The rotation, the bullpen and Cairo - 1 out of 51 total comment(s)
- Mon., 10/05/09 - 13:02 PMI agree that he has the most to offer when healthy, but since he's not necessarily healthy... is Brett Myers as much of a lock as you believe? Also, I don't think we should assume the healed Bastardo is a better LHP option than Escalona, whom is comfortable with a relief role and seems to be better at getting LHBs out in his small sample size.
Blog Post: A star is born - 1 out of 70 total comment(s)
- Thu., 08/20/09 - 21:28 PMAs much as I like Victorino, I fear he could be the most likely casualty of the team's rising salaries. Shane is due for a substantial raise throught arbitration and has significant market value. As Michael Taylor and Domonic Brown succeed in the minors, the Phillies brass has to at least consider what they get in return for, with all due respect to Bill Conlin's recent canonization, St. Shane.
Blog Post: Who is better for the Phillies: Halladay, Haren or Lee? - 1 out of 118 total comment(s)
- Sun., 07/19/09 - 16:04 PMGM Junior Amaro should offer Omar Daal, Nelson Figueroa, Travis Lee and Vicente Padilla to Arizona for Dan Haren.
Blog Post: The Untouchables: Start with Drabek - 1 out of 67 total comment(s)
- Wed., 07/08/09 - 17:50 PMCarlos Carrasco, Jason Donald and Lou Marson should be offered for Roy Halladay, but a trade would presumably need at least one more piece unless Toronto would accept John Mayberry & Kyle Kendrick. too. I'd rather move Victorino before Happ, Drabek, Knapp, Brown or Taylor. PS: This would never happen, but I'd move Carrasco, Mayberry & Rollins to Atlanta for Javier Vasquez, Yunel Esccobar and Matt Diaz. Still don't like the Jaramillo trade for Taschner (via Ronnie Paulino).

- Mon., 05/18/09 - 19:36 PMSelig : Hoover No matter what successes they actually accomplished in their service, these two will forever be associated with their failures.
Blog Post: What would you do? - 1 out of 49 total comment(s)
- Mon., 04/06/09 - 13:21 PMWhy not simply swap Utley & Werth? While Utley hits lefties pretty well, teams would most likely not leave in a LHP to face Werth.
Blog Post: Bears land Cutler - 1 out of 33 total comment(s)
- Fri., 04/03/09 - 18:45 PMWould the Eagles have received a similar dowry for McNabb? I like him as the Eagles QB in 2009... but not as much as I would like 2 firsts, a third and Kyle Orton as Kolb-insurance.
Blog Post: Brian Dawkins' Number Retirement: When? - 1 out of 50 total comment(s)
- Sun., 03/15/09 - 13:40 PMIf they retire #20, they won't do it when Dawkins arrives this season with the Broncos. The pictures to commemorate the event would all feature him wearing another uniform, an issue they would not want to perpetuate. For example, few people remember that Harold Carmichael retired after playing his final season for... the Dallas Cowboys.
Blog Post: Myers to minors - 1 out of 9 total comment(s)
- Tue., 07/01/08 - 17:03 PMNow that they have addressed Myers in the short-term, both Kendrick and Eaton should be on notice. Since they don't need the 5th starter right away, they could promote struggling Fabio Castro to serve as another bullpen lefty until next week, especially with Condrey on leave with his wife and first child.
Blog Post: Lou Dobbs' daughter rides like the devil at Devon - 1 out of 6 total comment(s)
- Fri., 05/30/08 - 13:44 PMI hope her horses are all American-bred or her father will freak out.
Blog Post: Perhaps it's time to give Kyle Kendrick his due. . . - 2 out of 10 total comment(s)
- Wed., 05/28/08 - 18:05 PMSo much for Coste getting the start tonight.
- Wed., 05/28/08 - 14:07 PMWhile the team is winning with Kendrick takes the mound, it is more reasonable to say he has been pitching lucky than pitching well. He's not pitching deep enough into games (just over 5 innings a start) nor has he pitched well on the road (9 K / 12 BB; .356 AVG). Perhaps 11 starts is a small sample; however, I'm not prepared to stop worrying about him. Eaton may have given up more homers, but he's actually allowing slightly less baserunners than any starter other Hamels. Padilla may be winning, but he's not worth the locker room attitude or the free agent salary Texas is paying him.
Blog Post: Mathieson Likely Needs A Second Tommy John - 1 out of 3 total comment(s)
- Sat., 05/10/08 - 20:32 PMI don't know if he would have ever been anything more than another Ryan Madson, which is good to have. I think his career was derailed by the fruitless exhibition known as the World Baseball Classic. Another example of owners abusing players for profit.
Blog Post: The New Philly.com - 1 out of 149 total comment(s)
- Sat., 05/10/08 - 02:36 AMCongratulations, I think this is an improvement! I like the use of color, which I think draws attention to the amount of content on each page as compared to the white background.
Blog Post: Decision '08: What will Manuel do with his line-up tonight? - 1 out of 8 total comment(s)
- Tue., 04/29/08 - 12:10 PMWerth is not hitting RHP well; he's doing okay. He's played well overall in Victorino's absence, but we've also seen quite a few lefties over the past two weeks. Rest Werth tonight, continue to platoon him with Jenkins against LHP and use him to rest Burrell & Victorino. PS: Aren't Lineups B & D the same?
Blog Post: Life on the margins - 1 out of 6 total comment(s)
- Wed., 04/23/08 - 00:21 AMNow that the margin has stabilized at 10%, what will all the pundits whom prematurely opined, "if only she had won by 10%..." say now?
Blog Post: Obama defends his spin team - 1 out of 26 total comment(s)
- Fri., 04/04/08 - 12:17 PMIt's testament to Sen. Obama's charm that he can admit to using the same (proven) campaign tactics as other politicians while simultaneously running as a Washington outsider. Hillary isn't perfect, but she's still my candidate!
