Let's see Ruf do this. Game winning catch against Norfolk (last game before being called up last summer).

Yeh bring Ruf back and spend the year teaching him how to play baseball. He sure earned it right?? Wake up. Tommy Joseph is going to be your great white hope because Kratz isn't cutting it and Chooch will be lost to free agency.

Enough about Brown in LF. He's become an excellent fielder whether in LF or RF. Being a southpaw, LF is his natural field. Agreed, he made a bad decision on an important play. Dom's been taken behind the woodshed; now let's drop it.It occurs to me that Ben R. failed to make a Willie Mays catch and nothing is made of it. Nix should NEVER be on the field. Mayberry should be the everyday RF. Why was D Young picked up? Better yet, why does he deserve a spot in the starting lineup? Has anybody looked at his batting stats at Detroit last year? Add to that that he can't run and throw.
MRI shows Brown's thumb injury not serious

Go to YouTube, search domonic brown. Click "domonic brown highlights". This kid was ambushed by Amaro when Scott Boros sunk his teeth in him after the Werth trade. Rubin WILL NOT deal with SB players. As soon as DB signed he was sent to the winter league to change his swing. Any moron knows that a short Utley swing wont work with a 6-5 batter. Case in point, see Dave Parker. He was a solid week in the batting cage and took so many swings with the silly swing that he broke his hand when allowed to revert to his old one. He played with that injury that takes a year to heal and you folks are judging him on his 2011 performance. He's the best talent this team has going forth and should be playing his natural position RH this year moving Pence to LF. DB isn't just more athletic than Hunter, he's more skilled. He gets to balls HP couldn't dream of catching.
Spend a little time on YouTube and you'll see just how good this guy is.
Coach and president had to go

QUOTING YOU: "There is no way to untangle the threads here, no way to be sure who knew what or when they knew it. They all have to go in order for the football program, the athletic department, and the entire university to have a chance for a fresh start."
Mr. Sheridan, you recklessly shoot words around like a machine gun with a broken mounting. So sanctimonious. So, let's help THOSE victims by creating hundreds or even thousands of new ones. Penn State relies heavily on its football program for revenue now and in the future towards its endowment. Football also gives PS much needed name recognition as it competes nationally for our nation's best in all fields of study. It helps offset the rising costs of higher education for PA students. I can only imagine how many tens of millions of dollars this knee-jerk decision will suck from State College over the short and long term, and those lost jobs and opportunities won't help ANY victims.
Don't you think it's important to "untangle the threads" as you put it before you pile on an 84 y.o. Institution as if he was Sanduski's kid-boffing accomplice? Let the facts (which you do NOT have) and the timeline come out, because Mr.Paterno's reputation tells me that he didn't knowingly take part in a sleazy cover up of the sort you accuse him of just to keep his coaching staff intact. This head coach benched Heisman contenders in important games for late schoolwork assignments and grade warnings.
In the end Mr. Sheridan, a great man was thrown to the wolves (you) last night. The lack of respect exercised in formulating and delivering the Paterno termination will haunt and cost Penn State for quite some time.

Vick's costly gifts

Nice post! Been here before. QB gifted at passing AND running. Do we have an offensive coordinator on this team? Did Rich Kotite come back? Where are some plays for a running QB? Of course you can stay with plan A keeping Vick in the pocket like a 40y.o. white guy. Way to go Eagles.

Ryan Howard did NOT lose this series. It took a team effort.
Most responsible was Charlie Manuel. He is totally out of it anymore. Just look at his news conferences. I wouldn't let Charlie drive my car, let alone manage a ball club. We needed 1 or 2 runs and where is our best power hitter of Aug. and Sept.? Mayberry was nailed to the bench. Raul was obviously helpless against Carpenter and Charlie is sticking to the left right thing. He could have made a change after 2 ABs.
Howard may have torn Achilles tendon

I hope comments about Ryan Howard are tempered and thoughtful. He takes a lot of abuse in this town, and now probably isn't the time to jump on him. Ryan is quietly a treasure to the Phillies and the community.
Postseason preview: Could the Phillies keep Dom Brown for the NLDS?

To keep Brown out of the lineup is just plain spiteful. I know there are a lot of Domonic detractors (mostly the Ryan Howard haters), but he should be in LF Tuesday afternoon rather than Ben Fran. Charlie only cares about L-R match-ups without taking into consideration the fact that BF hits lefties at .230 while DB comes in at .281 with a much better OBP.
No, Ruben isn't done spanking Dom. Noodle arm will play in left and the spastic Astro will never get a day off in right.

I Love the story about the big farmboy throw-back. Gabby and Ducky are great names, but I think he looks more like a Rube.
I hate the trade for Pence. Fans act like they acquired Matt Kemp. The Phillies have given up a lot of young talent and and derailed the promising careers John Mayberry and Domonic Brown who are both better than Hunter P. right now.

Great post! Exuberance will be contagious if Charley sticks to his convictions and locks in the corners removing all doubts.

You're thinking of 2009. He started last year cold and finished hot (until the playoffs, that is).

Brown HAS proved himself by having a stellar minor league season last year ( .327 20 HR) and he’s tearing things up in AAA now. His winter and spring shortcomings were due to a new batting stance experiment imposed upon him that didn’t work out. Since he has gone back to holding his hands high (see Dave Parker) he’s had success again. Note: On 8/14 Brown hit CBP’s longest HR of 2010 at 450’.
I’m getting tired of defending DB. In May of last year Baseball America ranked him MLB’s #1 prospect after interviewing ALL GMs. This spring, MLB.com ranked DB #4 in their top 50. Anatomically, if Domonic Brown were a horse he would be Secretariat. He’s faster than any player you can name, past or present and he possesses an unbelievable arm. As a junior in HS this guy threw a football end zone to end zone.
Brown is Werth’s heir to right field. Management fought hard to hold onto him when he was desired as part of the Halladay and Lee trades. Francisco will be a decent utility outfielder like last year with some RH pop off the bench. He’s painfully slow and has a below average arm. Ben F. Definitely isn’t a starter on a championship team.
The promotion should take place immediately!!
