at this point, i'd rather bynum, philly legend-for-a-day, stay out and let this group of support players "earn" the 8th pick. sign a legit big time center or power forward with cartilage in his knees and give it go next year.

no deal past this year. he looks broke down, sadly. so no deal, money for big time big man next summer. if he does "get better" and play some at end of year, you give him a 1 year deal, max. so, bummer for season that looked like it could be pretty damn good. now...look out 44 wins, here we come!

they look good without him. i hope he is just being cautious and when he returns, he and sixers will dominate. team to beat in the east. run at the championship. deep, talented, defensive minded...whoa, sixers could be good.

benefit of buying out kapono? his contract expires at end of season. are they just saving 1/3 of his salary for their books? this has no impact on cap space or product on floor, so why do we keep hearing about it. it is really only relevant to OTHER teams.
its like writers are trying to act as if sixers ARE active with roster.
disappointing day. if no good deal was out there, then agree to status quo, ASSUMING that changes will come off season. but as far as now, this has taken the wind out of my sixers' sails.
Thu., 02/24/11 - 15:25 PM
do not give a flying rats butt if they buy out kapono. that possible "move" is the equivalent of the team changing dsl providers for their offices.

well put. they are full of it. the other factor never mentioned is the value of the teams themselves. their values increase by huge margins.
buy a team for $500Million, sell in 10 years for $1Billion. but they will argue that they lost money in operating expenses each year (which actually isn't even true in the case of the NFL). if you buy a house for $250,000 and sell it for $500,000 five years later, do you complain that the house didn't "earn" money for you each year in income? of course not. the owners are lying.

the times, they are a'samein'
i've heard talk that the prospect of sixers making a few bucks in playoffs (most likely a losing round) is too much to jeopardize by trading iggy, etc.
this team is promising and i am on board, but ONLY as the prelude to a new-look sixers with ANY prospect of long term success. How, pray tell, will the sixers ever compete for real success? a few more mid-1st round draft picks and a trade of songala?
i, personally, don't care if comcast or ed snider makes any money, but i do want the sixers to be a contender.
chance of my continued interest in the sixers with no change in personnel?...1%

fighting in hockey is an embarrasment. completely unrelated to the normal game and "allowed" by refs, then suddenly "not allowed" after the goons go at each other for a while.

"At a minimum, the Sixers would have to make a desperation gambit and give swingman Andre Iguodala away below market value in the slight hope that they can get lucky with a free-agent superstar or impact draft pick in the next offseason or two."
normally a smallwood fan, but that is some weak stuff. why is this the choice? why not trade him for actual value and fill a real need at center? seems quite logical to me. he has to go. please. we need something different. we are sixers fans for chrissakes. we've been sitting thru this nonsense for years without any real future. we need this team to have someone other than iguadala be our best player. we simply need it. ok?

lack of mid-range game for entire NBA is shocking. why on earth wouldn't someone like iguadala or turner, or anyone, practice, practice, practice their shot until they are good at it. 2 point shot is better than brick 3-pointer.

PLEASE! not another year or sucking at start, then bust-ass to win 37 games, get middle type draft pick, and still essentially suck for years to come. trade iggy for young guy and bad contract. our team is not a team. it is a collection of players, some of whom are actually young and talented. but, c'mon. no shooting guard, two starting small forwards, no room for speights. team and mangagment are so very weak.
Wed., 02/17/10 - 17:03 PM
tired of sixers trying to "win now", when winning now is almost impossible. For years after the 2001 finals run, Billy King and Larry Brown kept trying to "win now", only to fade farther and farther from the top. Just when King finally started to plan for the LONG TERM, he was fired. Now, we got, Mr. Middle Managment (Ed Stefanski) and, he too is trying to win now to save their jobs. Him and Eddie Jordan. Note to Sixers owners: fans do not care about the Eds jobs, we want a good baskeball team. FUTURE, FUTURE, FUTURE.

getting old: First half of season the team SUCKS, SUCKS, SUCKS (and positions themselves for a legit draftpick). Second half of season the team begins to gel a bit and finishes near .500 by finally beating crappy teams (most of which are trowing games for a legit draft pick (see above)). Sixers end up with no-playoff run and mediocre draft position. Next year? same nonsense?
